The musical soundtrack for Sex and the City is every bit as romantic and glitzy as you might expect from the racy HBO TV series. Soulful grooves and slinky, seductive pop tunes run the gamut from the 1970s disco of Moloko's "The Time Is Now," on which falsetto vocals and lush strings underline the track, to the old-time R&B feel of Joan Osborne's "Righteous Love." Nearly everyone on board is in a sentimental mood. Country star Trisha Yearwood delivers the piano torch ballad "For Only You," while Aimee Mann contributes "Calling It Quits," a literate shuffle in the Elvis Costello vein. The Dust Brothers revive the 1976 Andrea True Connection hit "More More More." An expert on sex moves and never one to miss a chance to update his sound, Tom Jones receives the "Peppermint Jam Mix" for "Sexbomb" (featuring Mousse T), a tune as subtle as its title suggests. The Sex and the City score goes down perfect with a bottle of fine wine and candlelight--and a little backup Barry White, just in case. --Rob O'Connor

2 out of 5 stars A bit disappointed   June 13, 2008
Dawn M. Raves (Harlingen, Texas)
I was really disappointed with this CD (HBO show)- I was wanting to listen (and remember the great times with friends, weekly HBO, with a bottle of wine . or chosmo's) and the theme show song was well - - - not there! All in all the CD is "good" but ~ die hard "watchers" want the "real thing!" Perhaps a "remake!?"The movie CD (though) is great, love the first song! I would recomment this (and have bought several for friends!) to be enjoyed!

I really liked the Heart of The Matter song performed by Indie arie in the movie but this soundtrack dont have any of the songs i heard throughout the series...And to the person who posted the general list: THANK YOU!!! ive been trying to find out who sang that song at the end of the episode "the domino effect" and you had that on your list..so thanks..they are missing songs like Moon river which really did have a moving but sad theme to it when it was played in the episode "i heart ny" and the final song in the final episode, etc,etc...im glad i listened to samples before buying this cd...i would have been really disappointed...the show had some wonderful music throughout the series and this soundtrack just doesnt do it justice.

Over the years I have had many people email me regarding the music from Season 2's finale episode called "Ex' And The City". I hope this post helps some of you. I had 4 songs from my first cd, "La Esperanza" featured ("El Loco!", "Cara Mia", "Love & Lust")... the last one being a song called "La Punta" which was the final song in that episode. I hope this helps those of you who have been searching for the music and thanks to all of you for the musical support!

Unlike the other reviews, I didn't buy this Cd for the theme song to sex in the city, so really didn't care that it wasn't the real one. I bought this Cd for the Trisha Yearwood song, For Only You. She never recorded it on any of her albums and this was the only Cd I could find it on. Its the most beautiful song Ive ever heard and I am walking to it for my wedding in August of this year. The rest of the songs are upbeat and puts you in a funky mood.....For all those who are getting married, Please listen to For Only You, you will fall in love with it too.

I'm an avid SATC fan and have NEVER heard any of of these songs in any of the episodes. Perhaps they just wanted to theme it based on what the girls go through, especially Carrie and Big? Perhaps the Missy Elliot song was in homage to Samantha.

Either way my fellow fans, without further ado-- here's some songs you can get right on iTunes or at any music store. All stuff I'd normally never listen to but I frenzied to grab it on iTunes because I love the show so much. THE REAL SOUNDTRACK!

1. "Hot Stuff"- Donna Summer; when the ladies go to Staten Island in "Where There's Smoke There's Fire"
2. "Bad Girls"- Donna Summer; same episode and plays right after it
3. "Hot Child In The City"- Nick Gilder; theme song of the episode of the same name
4. "Got To Be Real"- Cheryl Lynn; recurs throughout "The Real Me"
5. "She Bangs"- Ricky Martin; on Miranda's walkman at the gym in the same episode
6. "Shazam!"- Spiderbait; Carrie strutting down the runway as the not-real her. (This single is hard to find though!)
7. "Shining Star"- Earth Wind & Fire; en route to the Fleet Week party in "Anchors Aweigh"
8. "Feelin Alright"- Joe Cocker; the Fleet Week party in the same episode
9. "Try A Little Tenderness"- Otis Redding; end of the party and credits.
10. "Good To Go"- Organic Audio; the club music at Bed in "The Post-It Always Sticks Twice"
11. "Smoke On The Water"- Deep Purple; what plays at the not-so-glamorous bar in the same ep
12. "In The Waiting Line"- Zero 7; ending of "The Domino Effect"
13. "Breathe"- Michelle Branch; ending of "The Catch"
14. "La Belle Et Le Bad Boy"- MC Solaar; the scenes of Carrie and Miranda running in "An American Girl In Paris Part Deux"

There's a ton more I'm missing but this gives you a general idea. I'll update this if I can!
