Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Explicit version. Limited Fan Club Edition. 11 tracks plus three bonus versions. Shinedowns highly anticipated third album, The Sound Of Madness opens with lead single 'Devour'. Its heavy onslaught of ripping guitars and relentless drums would not sound out of place on a Guitar Hero soundtrack. Of the album, frontman Brent Smith says 'In the seven years of this thing called Shinedown, Ive seen a lot of different things - what weve all gone through on the road, things in our personal lives or witnessed firsthand through the fans that weve made and the relationships weve built with our audience. I think the biggest thing was I didnt want to sugarcoat the way life can be sometimes.' Their face-melting rock comes as no surprise, considering that the band hails from sultry Jacksonville, Florida.

5 out of 5 stars Can't get enough!   October 23, 2008
Rocker Mom (NJ, USA)
I have never written a review for anything before but this album is so good that I felt compelled to do so. I cannot stop listening to this CD. While I love just about everything on it, there are a few tracks that stand out for me:
1. Devour - An intense hard rocker inspired by the band's visit to the troops in Iraq. This one is like an angry punch in the gut...Wow!
2. Sound of Madness - Simply a great title track. You can't help but tap your foot or pound your fists to this song.
3. The Crow and the Butterfly - This one is my favorite. I love the beautiful arrangement on this.
4. If You Only Knew - Very catchy, upbeat love song. Brent's voice sounds amazing (as always).
5. Breaking Inside - Lots of emotion. I hope they release this one as a single.

The three bonus tracks are really good too. I especially like, I Own You. This is Shinedown's best effort so far. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves good, solid rock music.

Note: If you like this, check out both releases from the band Alter Bridge.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING   October 8, 2008

I heard SHINEDOWN's old stuff and met them this 08' summer when their new stuff was just coming out, and I fell more in love with the soul of their music. I had to get the limited edition. I am addicted to the song "If you only knew." I must highly recommend!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing album   October 7, 2008
Gary C. Bradley (niagara falls)
This album is amazing.....the band has grown in their musicianship and lyric writing. Its harder then Us & Them....which is still a great album ..even if it was tamer and radio friendly. This album starts out with a bang and then lulls you in with the standard ballads....but the ballads are still great, great lyrics and singing. The hard rockers on the album are fist pumping headbanging anthems that would sound great in any arena. The song What A shame is truly a magnifcant song...and really shows Brents southern rock bloodline. Even though compared to STP by themselves and others...i find that the songs and lyrics are much better then anything STP ever did. The regular album is a bit short at 41 minutes so it is nice to have the 3 extra songs on the LE version.

5 out of 5 stars If you think the CD is good Check them out in Concert! WOW!   September 5, 2008
Sharon
So, I picked the CD up at the concert in Spokane when they were touring here recently! Like everyone here says...they do not dissapoint? The cd rips through all kinds of emotions but I like the second chance song the most. Guess I am kinda mellow like that. But Devour makes you want to pound on your steering wheel going down the road! Keep it up guys...and congrats on your little boy!

Wow...I bought this cd after hearing one of their songs on Pandora and havent taken it out of the cd player yet. Everyone I let listen to it loves it as much as I do. Every week I have a new favorite song. Right now its "What a Shame"
Every song is amazing in its own way. Nice change ups throughout the cd. (Crow and the Butterfly is slower) I sing these songs at work and everything. Love Love Love it!!! I am a hardcore fan now!
