Amazon.com As befits the soundtrack of a music biopic, most of the heavy lifting here is done by the movie's subject: iconic French singer Edith Piaf. She was the Gallic Judy Garland, a natural performer who overcame one personal tragedy after another and was never more alive than on stage, forging an uncommon bond with both material and audience. Since actress Marion Cotillard lip-synchs in the film, the first 11 tracks on the CD are by Piaf herself, and give a good overview of her biggest hits (though we get the English version of the title track) and her feverish, ultra-dramatic style. But Piaf wasn't only a tragedienne of song: Her lighter side is represented by "Rien de Rien" and "Mon Manege a Moi," which she infuses with wonderful flair. Tracks 12-20 are made up of Christopher Gunning's richly symphonic original score (check out "La Mort de Leplee"). The last third of the album offers Piaf without Piaf, with contemporary singers Jil Aigrot and Maya Barsoni performing her songs (apparently because the originals' poor sound quality meant they would have stuck out in the movie). Watch out, however, for Mistinguett's hilarious "Il m'a vu nue," a slice of French music-hall history preserved in amber. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

movie sound track June 9, 2008 Dr. James W. Cole (Florida) Very good reproduction of the original masters. I enjoy it over and over because I liked the movie and the music of that era. The actress deserved the Oscar I think. Todays musiic does seem like music to an old timer.

Someone somewhere must like her voice but it's not me. I hope the movie was better than the sound track.

The album was disappointing. I was looking for more of Piaf singing. I did not expect to hear Piaf wannabes or soundtrack background music.
A truly magical voice January 23, 2008 Julie Gettys (Clovis, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This CD is unbelievably beautiful. It brings back all my memories of the blessed Edith Piaf. I shall cherish this super upgraded album for many years to come.
Edith Piaf Movie January 22, 2008 Janet Y. Blalock (usa) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was disappointed in as much as one of the best songs from the movie was left off the sound track "La Vie En Rose". This was the song by the child actress who played Edith as a child and sang the French national anthem. I have all the other music by Edith Piaf and only ordered the movie sound track to have that particular song. The sound track was excellent in every other way. I just don't understand why this particular song was left off it.
