Amazon.com "The innocence of my life releases the God I love everywhere." These are the words of Rumi, 13th-century poet and founder of the Whirling Dervishes of Sufism, as spoken by the mature and melodious voice of Rosa Parks. Her voice, American history, those words, intense longing: Power. In celebration of the human spirit, The Gift of Love is a recitation of the love poems of Rumi by Dr. Chopra and celebrity friends, including Madonna, Goldie Hawn, and Robert A.F. Thurman. Sensual Middle Eastern-influenced music backs the reading and provides breaks between sections such as "Love Drunk" and "The Light of Love." The Gift of Love is sincere and potent stuff, unafraid of the deep physical, spiritual, and mental hunger that Rumi's words not only taste, but roll about the tongue and swallow whole. --Paige La Grone

Small Poems are not why Rumi is famous??!! November 13, 2008 Amir Chaudhry (California USA) It is interesting that westerners are so Islamophobic that they totally omit Rumi's most important work about Islamic Mysticism (aka sufism) which is called the Mathnawi ( a six volume Poem). The Mathnawai is Rumi's best work and has been translated in english beautifully, while being itself a work of immense and sublime beauty. Since it is about ISLAM, and God, I guess it is not worth touching. 'Mathnawi' is what made Rumi immortal and put him on the map, Not his 'Love Poems' to be mutilated by some pop-psychs and of all fake people 'Madonna'.
5 stars? Are you guys high? September 3, 2008 Madan (Daytona Beach, FL United States) Let me start by saying that this is the best album ever.....to get your enemies. They will be dead by the end of the album, guaranteed. In fact, I had to have the Kiss of Life administered by my ugly co-workers multiple times while listening to this travesty while at work. However, I will say that I listen to this album a lot when I am upset, or angry. It makes me laugh, and instantly lightens my mood. I feel no matter how bleak the outlook, I am not Martin Sheen speaking with a hoarse earnestness that is positively nauseating, nor am I Deepak Chopra stressing my "s"-es and adding the crucial charlatan touch to this inimitable work of genius. That having been said, the icing on the cake is the track "Come to Me". If you can listen to that, and not burst out laughing, then you are not human. I do love Rumi's poetry, but poetry must remain poetry, and should not be gang-raped by this coterie of psuedo-spiritual, pretentious hacks. If this is the face of modern Spirituality, I'm signing up with Marilyn Manson. Get this album if you have some money to spare and want a few laughs. It will make an ideal birthday gift for someone you're trying to piss off.
Hearts Hidden Treasure - Excellent June 26, 2008 BT (Boston, USA) Indeed it's A Gift of Love from God to humanity. From all directions the seeker will be attacked by the power of Love and will not be able to resist being touched by this Love on the deepest level of its Heart. I would recommend this CD to every spiritual seeker on the path of return. Thank you to all for their efforts on making this CD as professionally as they did. It was a jewel, truly heartfelt, inspiring, "a silent love in the spark of life"... Thank you
Incredible CD January 18, 2008 Angela M. Cunnane (Texas) This is the best CD I have ever purchased, in fact I have two copies of it as the first one was used and a little crackly. I listen to it on headphones at night in bed and I am totally transported by it. It moves me to the same place my meditation does, it is fabulous, do not hesitate to buy it. If I could give it 10 stars I would. It will give you chills!
It's about the presentation January 9, 2008 Renee Aubuchon (San Francisco) Rumi's poetry is supreme. That said, the question becomes how is it being presented? Dr. Chopra and friends are respectful of the material. I find, however, especially upon repeat listenings, that Dr. Chopra's English is difficult to listen to and at times can sound strained- like lisping in English. I would suggest Coleman Barks for spoken Rumi recordings and Daniel Ladinsky's CD of spoken Hafiz poetry before this recording by Dr. Chopra.
