Amazon.com It's no surprise that Starbucks is behind Brazilian chanteuse CeU's self-titled debut disc. (A co-release with the ever-tasteful Six Degrees Records.) The slinky, soulful sounds would be right at home amid mocha frapuccinos and lattes with extra foam. But CeU is more than a mere coffee-club cutie. Her sexy, assured vocals infuse every song with a come-hither vibe, from the playful "Rainha" to the simmering "10 Contados." The disc also showcases a slightly funky, urban sensibility; and electronic flourishes amplify the modern feel. "Vinheta Dorival" segues from standard guitar licks into gentle percussion rhythms. And a cover of Bob Marley's "Concrete Jungle" is elegant and effortless. Though originally released overseas in 2005, CeU's captivating collection still rings with truth and vibrancy. A truly caffeinated experience. --Joey Guerra

Best musical surprise of this year June 29, 2008 Jose Maria Cuellar (Madrid, Spain.) I heard about Ceu when one of my friends on last.fm made me a recommendation. I think it's the best album I got this year. It's a well balanced fusion of vocal jazz, regae, afro, funky, samba, Miles Davis and electronic chill out music. Really a good job. Ceu reminds me in some way the first album of Norah Jones where you like every song. This is the same. I'm impatient waiting for her second album.

Ceu is an up and coming artist on the Six Degrees label. If you like Bebel Gilberto and Stan Getz, you will definitely like Ceu. She has a very sexy, sultry voice for such a young singer. Her band is excellent. The percussion and horn section really make this album go! This is an excellent addition to my music selection. Buy this CD. You will love it!

I bought this album after hearing a cut on BBC radio. At first I was a bit disappointed, but at every listening it got better and it is now my favorite album. There is a lot going on; very subtle and intelligent arranging. Nothing flashy or overdone. Can't wait for the next album!
beautiful voice, save some cash for coffee April 6, 2008 dotsnail (New York, NY United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been a fan of Ceu since hearing her perform in NYC. Her voice ranks among the best female singers in Brazil (a tough act to follow). I listen often to this CD. The production is first-rate and does justice to her vocal talent. I saw this CD at the well-known national coffee outlet, but Amazon sold it for half-price, which left me some change to buy coffee.

I really dont know why I bought this cd as it turned out to be wrong for my taste. Its a tad poppy for me but Im sure she has many, many fans out there but Im not one of them.
