| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com The music of Puerto Rican outfit Calle 13 simmers like so much sweat on the backs of b-boys and fly girls, twisting and turning its way through the cracks and crevices of modern urban music. Calle 13's dynamic duo--half-brothers Rene Perez and Eduardo Cabra--are smart, shocking, and silly. It's a thrilling combination that makes for some hip-swiveling, head-turning sounds. Standout tracks "La Hormiga Brava," "Vamo Animal," and the rocket-fueled single "Atrevete-te-te" careen between street sounds and lush Latin rhythms, anchored by the group's mischievous sense of humor. Reggaeton is the label that's been slapped on this inspired hybrid, but Calle 13 is light years beyond that often stifling genre (which explains recent collaborations with Nelly Furtado and Alejandro Sanz). Latin rap riffs, new-wave keyboards, and a sprinkling of pop smarts chart a musical path (and crash together during "Sin Coro") that Calle 13 will likely lead--and veer from--in the near future. --Joey Guerra

Nostalgic for me!!! May 20, 2007 Shekinah Aquino (Buffalo, New York) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I know these two may seem like something new to alot of people, but having lived in Puerto Rico for more than half my life, calle 13 brought back the fondest memories. Wit, humor, patriotism and provocative lyrics have made them my favorites and brought me back to the genre. LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!
Rapping like Salvador Dali would paint... May 12, 2007 Ana Flores (New York City, NY) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you like excitement and a play with words, this is the CD to get. I wish I knew where this cat gets his ideas to put on paper; Rene (Residente, of Calle 13) manages to take you through a colorful, deliciously funky and fun description of life's journey in a very witty way...in your head, just replace images with his rapping and you'll instantly have your own original Salvador Dali painting...very creative! His partner (half brother), "Visitante" is a musical genius..added together, you've got a masterpiece. I'm looking forward to their next.
New sounds and a different spin of latino flava' May 10, 2007 Liz! H. (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) I love this group and the "explicit lyrics" warning does NOT apply to all of the songs. I was very pleased with this CD and the artistic talents of this group.
damn good cd April 19, 2007 Erik Brewster (San Ramon, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i hadn't even heard of "reggaeton" until my girl played this for me. reggaeton whatever though, this fool has flow. i caught spanish pretty quickly in school, but i can't begin to understand 98% of what he's saying at all. my girl is fluent in spanish, and she still has a hell of a time getting through the heavy puerto rican slang, but that's it... the complaining part of the review is over. just listening to the sets of syllables that are tied together, along with great breath control, not to mention a pretty melodic voice for a rapper (without being annoying), it's obvious that he's got some talent on the mic. add to that the fact that every one of the beats are straight slappers, and you've got yourself one hell of an album to rock out to, at the house with some bottles, or smashing down some backroads. i'm a white guy into clever, witty and lyrically complex hip-hop, so i wonder how much more hate i could get for jumping on this "reggaeton" deal, but i would mos def (not the rapper) pump this at a club, house party or just smashing on the road. bottom line, if his lyrics are actually as sick over the killer beats as they sound, you should add another star to this review. the puffy skit is great too. stop the watered down pop-rap!
