GREAT PERFORMANCE, HORRIFIC MIX !!! July 23, 2008 JUAN MARTIN GABASTOU (Weston Hills, FL United States) Energetic live perfomance presenting their " Pretty Ugly " record -expect 8 songs out of the 19-track setlist to be from that album- which is a great thing since it's one of their best. Tracks 1-12 are great but the overall sound and mix are somewhat flawed; there's little treble and-heresy !- the only guitar left after their second axe quit the band is appalingly low in the mix . The drums sound ok, lotsa kickdrum little snares but the takes on the bass are incredible. This band's bassist can really play so they always mix her high in the mix on their studio records too ( I got most of them). Versions of the songs on this cd are a fresh departure from the studio one, less polished, more chaotic but still manage to retain a high level of tightness; these chicks are a steamroller on acid ! On tracks 13-19 (there's one bonus track) the sound is totally f...d up . I'd recommend this live cd to die-hard fans of the band ONLY since it's very unsatisfactory from a sonic standpoint .
Lunachicks Never Played My High School!!! June 10, 2004 ReignWaterBurns (Madison, WI) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
"Oh by the way, ohh yeah! We're recording this show for a live album you guys! Is the tape changed yet?"Those are Theo's words halfway through the album as she absentmindedly remembers that this will become the band's only live cd. This album was recorded during the Pretty Ugly tour, and 10 of the 19 songs are from that cd. ("Spork" is actually track 7, and the following songs are bumped one number up respectively). Also included is a live cover version of Iggy Pop's "Passenger," which can also be found on the Iggy tribute "We Will Fall." I really like this album a lot, mostly because a lot of the songs are off of Jerk Of All Trades, which happens to be my favorite cd by them. The recording was done extremely well for being in a high school, and only once did I think the sound was kind of "far away." Lunachicks played most songs faster than the original versions, but I've noticed that a lot of bands do that when they play live. This doesn't take away from the album at all however, if anything it adds new dimensions to songs that are familiar to die hard fans like myself. All in all I highly recommend this album to any Lunachicks fan.
