"Their best live album"??? Really??? Rock In Rio is WAY BETTER!!!! November 24, 2008 Denzel Lockheart (Edmonton, Canada) I'm a huge fan of Maiden, in fact they're my favorite band of all time and I own all the albums, DVDs, Live albums, and have seen them live in Concert, which was the single greatest experience in my life. I will never forget June 6th 2008, the best night of my life when I saw them live. Recently I just went back and listened to this album, after not having heard it in so long. Honestly, I dunno what the fans are on when they say this is the best live album they've released. Perhaps they haven't heard "Rock in Rio" yet??? This, to me, is a very OK-at-best set performance if you ask me. Now I will go through which songs are featured: POWERSLAVE SONGS: Aces High, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Powerslave, Rime of the Ancient Mariner COMMENTS: Bruce really struggles on "Aces High", which is rather unfortunate since it's the best on Powerslave. Everything else is pretty good, except they play Rime way too fast. When I saw them earlier this year, they played the above 4 songs better. PIECE OF MIND SONGS: Revelations, Flight of Icarus, Die With Your Boots On, The Trooper COMMENTS: I liked the faster approach to "Revelations", but Flight of Icarus... no. They butchered the living hell out of that song with the faster approach. The Trooper is pretty awesome and well-performed, Die With Your Boots On is OK, however again- Bruce struggles. THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST: SONGS: 22 Acacia Avenue, The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills COMMENTS: Although Bruce doesn't sing the highest bit, RTTH is still well performed. NOTB is awesome as well and 22AA is pretty good as well. KILLERS: SONGS: Wrathchild COMMENTS: Bruce, I love you, you're my hero and favorite singer in the world, but let me just say... I'm glad you don't sing Wrathchild like THAT anymore. IRON MAIDEN: SONGS: Sancturary, Running Free, Phantom of the Opera, Iron Maiden COMMENTS: Gotta cut back on the yelling a bit. Bruce's SHOUTING instead of singing on Iron Maiden is really distracting, But seriously, Sanctuary and POTO are the 2 best songs performed off here. POTO is worth the price of this alone- Bruce sounds great here and the band tightly performing as usual. ANd Running Free is some good fun too, I love Bruce's comments in the middle. "What are you doing, sitting on your neighbor's [...] or something????" Overall, this is a decent live album but NOT thier best!!!! Maiden are my fave band and I I'll always own everything they release. Just know There IS better, and that Maiden are the best, that's all you need to know! UP THE IRONS!!!
awesome!!! November 16, 2008 Heather Mcknight (brighton, co usa) This cd is great!!Every good thing i've heard is true, this truly is the best live cd!!!
A very good live album August 29, 2008 Jonathan Mettin (Philadelphia, PA USA) Iron Maiden cuts loose with some of their staples - like "Run to the Hills" and "Number of the Beast" - but also showcases some of the tracks you don't always hear, like "Flight of Icarus" and "22 Acacia Avenue." The album is very solid throughout, and even its weak points are pretty darn good. I would have liked to see a little more vocal energy on a few of the tracks - Bruce Dickinson really can own the songs sometimes, and when he doesn't you can really tell. That's not to say he's not good on those tracks, but when he goes all out they are exceptional. Still, this album is a must for all Maiden fans, with the definitive cut of "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and some other essential tracks.
A metal classic; best as a 2 cd full version, not a 1 cd edit. January 23, 2008 Michael D. Chlanda This double cd (not the 1 cd release, that edited off side 4 [in the lp days]) of some of Iron Maiden's best songs, covering from the early pre Dickinson days to Powerslave. It has a nice intro (Churchill's speech) then it's all headbanging classic rock. Find the 2 cd one, if you're a Maiden fan. [Same with "Bursting Out" from Jethro Tull, if you like them, like I do, as the original 1 cd left out three songs.]
Best Live Album EVER! December 30, 2007 C. Sterban (Springfield, MO) If you haven't bought this AWESOME CD yet, Go out now and BUY it Immediately!! This is the best live CD you will ever get, if you are a metal fan. Raw power, emotion and chops. This is the best live album ever, in the world. The version of "Phantom of the Opera" is perfect, as well as the rest of the songs on this exceptional release. Can't rate it high enough...
