Dodgy CD June 8, 2005 D. Parry (Lincolnshire UK) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this album, and received a little surprise after placing it in my CD player. I emailed Metallica.com for some answers, this is an excerpt from the e-mail: 'Firstly, it[In the Beginning...Live] is on a different record label to the normal "Vertigo". It has been released on "Origin Records" and I was wondering whether it is an official album, as I cannot find it on Metallica.com. About two months ago, I received a cd from a friend who says it's "No Life 'Till Leather" - he downloaded it off the internet. This Metallica "Live" album is exactly the same as the "No Life 'Till Leather" that I received, but with crowd noises at the beginning and end of each track and with the quality turned down! The songs are exactly the same! I also believe that the intro to "Seek and Destroy" on "In the Beginning... Live" has been taken from the "Seek and Destroy" intro from the dvd "Cliff 'Em All". In the booklet of "In the Beginning... Live", it claims that 'this recording pre-dates their legendary demo "No Life 'til Leather"' and says that it was "Recorded in 1982". This doesn't seem true because it is "No Life 'Till Leather", just made to sound live.' Here is the whole of the reply that I received (except for all the promotional stuff): 'It is a bootleg, not an official Metallica release' Now you know the facts about this album, you can make an informed decision whether to buy it. I advise that you stay away, but if you want a poor quality version of "No Life Till Leather" then this is for you (although I recommend getting it off the internet). It does contain metal, it is even Metallica (as the other commenter seems to think that it isn't metal at all) but not in good quality at all.
