Crank The Frank August 1, 2008 J. Davis (Virginia, USA) I saw Frank about 2 weeks ago (20 feet away!)and was totally blown away by his "live" performance. If he comes near your town, he is an absolute must see. I bought this CD at the show, and have been listening to it since. AB-SO-FN-LOOT-LY BUY THIS CD!!!! I also saw Frank at CALJAM2 in 1978.UN-FN-BELIEVABLE SHOW!!! ALOT of music has come across my ears between then and now, so I do not say this lightly...this is one of the best "Live" CDs (and maybe one of the best cds I now own)I have ever heard. "He's Calling" is face melting rock at its prime! "Stories of the Hero" will touch your soul, and "Poppy" is an incredible piece of work. Both CDs are stunning. If you like/love guitarmen at their finest, you must buy this CD. NOW!!!! CRANK THE FRANK!!!!!!
Missing link July 31, 2008 Dirk Van de moortel (Belgium) "He's Calling" (cd #1, track #3) is the track which made me aware of Frank Marino - I had never heard of him before. They played the track on the radio (www.classic21.be). It made me go shopping for the album on the spot. Guitar-sound-wise on this album Marino is a bit of a missing link between Frank Zappa and Johhny Winter. Brilliant piece of work.
Frank Marino - Live July 29, 2008 K. Stewart (Plainfield, IL) My personal favorite of all Franks live CD's. It has a good mix of old and new tunes. Give it a listen!
Unreal Live Performance! July 14, 2008 M. Solomon Frank Marino is an amazing blues/rock guitar player and this CD just kicks a$$. Track 3 of the first CD is incredible it's impossible to turn this one up loud enough. Buy this CD!
Didn't work for me July 1, 2008 6 String Guy 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
After reading all of the great reviews on this site, I had to get this. Like many of the reviewers here, I have been listening to many of the great guitarists over the years. Unfortunately I cannot say that this is a recording that I can recommend. Frank Marino does have a high level of technical skills - he can play all of the notes required in the music. He can play with dazzling speed. What I found lacking was emotion. At times, I found the music derivative of Hendrix and Duane Allman but the emotion those players were able to wring from their instruments was not there for me in this recording. Without emotion, the long guitar breaks are not memorable and simply fall flat to me. If you are into Frank Marino, you would probably enjoy this. The sound quality is very good and the song selection covers a range of many years for Marino and MR, so your favorites are probably represented here.
