| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Anita Baker is a legendary vocal embellisher; she can hold the end of a line and bend that final syllable through several notes in her trademark smokey alto, thus giving the lyric an extra emotional twist. Audiences love this sort of vocal ornamentation, and a singer must resist the temptation to overdo it, for at a certain point, decoration becomes clutter. Unfortunately, Baker succumbs to that temptation on her new album, Rhythm of Love, which is so embellished with slides, moans and trills it's often difficult to find the songs underneath it all. --Goeffrey Himes

THERE IS JUST 'SOMETHING' ABOUT AN ANITA BAKER ALBUM... December 8, 2007 Mr. Nightshift (Los Angeles, CA) ...that we all will find to get 'Hooked' on, or just simply 'Groove' to, but either way damn-near whatever she do...We wait for the next project...and the next project. In the later years Anita Baker has refused to try to Crossover, have guest Rappers, or a bunch of busy stuff going on in her recordings, so as a result she has kept a long list of fans. The Hit Singles from this project was "Body And Soul" & "I Apologize". The album favorites includes: "You Belong To Me" & "It's Been You". This is just right for late night entertaining...If you know what I mean.
OFF THE HOOK April 3, 2007 Shandelli (Tulsa, Ok) I have always loved this CD from the first time I heard it! I have been looking for it for awhile now so I was pleased too get it at this great low price!!! Anita Baker is a great singer who touches me deep down soul!!
Anita Baker cd "Rhythm of Love" March 30, 2007 T. Okuka (PA) Came in excellent condition!! I am very happy!!!
Tops! March 8, 2007 James (Indianapolis, IN United States) "Rhythm of Love" is pure Anita Baker at the top of her game before her ten year disappearing act. Her voice is sometimes sublime or sometimes passionate and always riviting, as on all her previous albums. The great instrumentals weave in and out of her extraordinary vocals. Every song gets five stars except one, "Body & Soul", which is ravishing and beyond catagory! The listener may hear reflections of Vaughan. In fact, Baker belongs to that exclusive group of female focalists with distinctive voices such as Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgarald. This is my #1 favorite vocal album by my #1 favorite vocalist. Was "diva girl" micheleann (below) listening to the same CD?
Rhythm of Love August 6, 2005 Geminigirl (Philadelphia, PA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been a fan of Anita Baker since hearing her first album, 'The Songstress'. Her unique vocal styling and heartfelt emotional performances reeled me in and I'm hooked. If forced to rank her albums, I'd rank it fourth (ahead of 'Compositions' but after 'Rapture', 'GYTBIG' & the aforementioned,'Songstress'). The first single, 'Body & Soul' literally stopped me in my tracks. This is one of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard and to this day is one of my favorite songs by any artist. The other standout tracks to me are: 'Plenty of Room' (beautiful sentiment), her off-the-chain remakes of 'You Belong To Me' (makes you almost forget the original) and 'My Funny Valentine' (not quite as enjoyable as Chaka Khan's rendition but..still excellent); 'Sometimes I Wonder Why' and 'Only For a While'. The only two songs that do nothing for me even to this day are 'Rhythm of Love' & 'Wrong Man'. Overall the production and vocals on this disc should satisfy any fan of Anita's music as this ranks right up there with her more popular albums. Although for any newbies, I'd recommend 'Rapture' to dip your feet into her music first.
