Album Description
2008 two CD set, a collection of cuts from the Olliet Records label, which kicks off with hot guitarist, Lafayette 'Thing' Thomas and his extraordinary and influential instrumental, 'The Thing' from 1956. The earliest tracks come from 1946 and feature Gospel groups like The Swanee River Quartet. Also from 1946 come the first recordings from the legendary Percy Mayfield. Other notable Blues artists who recorded for the label include Lowell Fulson and Jimmy 'T99' Nelson. The earliest recording of legendary Jazz bassist, Charles Mingus were made in an R&B style and issued under the name Baron Mingus in 1949 are also included.
