Sometimes having good, original ideas is the worst thing you can do in rock music. To paraphrase Jim Dickinson on the Beastie Boys, rock and roll is theft, and it's not so much about whether or not one steals but why, how much and how well (i.e. from whom). Riff-heavy in all the right ways, this is a very well-produced retro-rock record with handclaps, catchy choruses, and plenty of attitude. They freely cop from AC/DC, the Stones, the Verve, Oasis, Humble Pie, Aerosmith, Black Crowes, and Mooney Suzuki, and they do it very well. The only problems with the album lie in the words, and in the softer material. Most of the lyrics are so banal ("Now you don't need money with a face like that, do ya") they were seemingly written by some newfangled songwriting program set to "1973." And half the album consists of ballads that are just pretty good: the Oasis-y "Look What You've Done," the Pink Floyd -esque "Timothy" and the Small Faces-ish "Move On.". But it's the mid-to-uptempo stompers that this group excels at. --Mike McGonigal

Nothing too inventive here, but Jet revisit some earlier and much missed rock n' roll styles. Some say they're an AC/DC clone, but as a big Acca Dacca fan, I just don't see it. Just because they play some rock n' roll, doesn't make them an AC/DC clone.
There's some good stuff here, and some mediocre stuff as well. I like the harder rock material ("Are You Gonna Be My Girl" & "Cold Hard Bitch" for example), but it's a bit too soft, overall, for my palate.
There seems to be a bit of a rock revival with bands like Jet and Wolfmother (seriously, what's in the Aussie water?), but they don't quite live up to the standards set by the classics of the genre.
Fairly enjoyable, nevertheless.
A Retro Sound Thats Contemporary.... September 28, 2007

A lot of people are comparing this band to the Beatles. I enjoy this band, and I really can't stand the Beatles. So that says something. After seeing one of their videos a few years back, I finally decided to get the LP. The songs have a style that is highly influenced by Rock music from the late 60s and early 70s- yet it doesn't feel like its stuck in time. There are also elements of Folk and Alternative Country. The songs work for today. They aren't trying to hard to capture a sound from an Era. Rather the band brings that Era to today's sound. Some songs lack strong lyric- but that was the style of many of the upbeat Rock numbers of that style. But the strongest song lyrics wise are "Look What You've Done, "Move On"- which is reminiscent of (Alt Country bands like Wilco), "Timothy" , and "Radio Song". There are also plenty of high energy fun songs like "Roll Over DJ", "Get What You Need", and "Are Gonna Be My Girl". The album is well done and sensibility for modern listeners. So I don't think its stuck in the past at all. Its merging the past and the present in a very creative way.

I bought Get born because I knew that I liked the 4 singles that I had heard on the radio. It turns out, those were the only 4 songs I liked on the cd. It wasn't that the other songs were bad or boring, I just wasn't into them like I was the singles.
