What do Paris Hilton, Sarah Brightman, Clown from Slipknot - Paul Sorvino, Steven Perkins and Bill Mosley have in common?

REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA
Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman
Produced by Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate
Written by Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich
Starring Paul Sorvino, Alexa Vega, Paris Hilton, Anthony Head, Bill Mosely, Ogre, Terrance Zdunich and Sarah Brightman, (cameo by Joan Jett)

In the no-so-distant future, a worldwide epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GENECO, a biotech company that offers organ transplants...for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by THE REPO MAN. By fusing ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and BLADE RUNNER, this futuristic tale of horror modernizes the rock opera genre with original music and rich, dark production design.
This rock opera boasts an entirely original soundtrack that blends equal parts goth and punk rock to form an eerie and powerful musical narrative. All of the actors performed their own songs, and the music was provided by an all-star lineup that features performances from Richard Patrick (Filter), Steven Perkins (Jane's Addiction), Clown (Slipknot), Ray Luzier (Army of Anyone), Brian Young (David Lee Roth's band), Richard Fortus (Guns & Roses), Sonny Moore (First to Last), David J (Bauhaus/Love & Rockets), Daniel Ash (Love & Rockets), Blasko (Ozzy Osborne), Tommy Clefetus (Rob Zombie's band), Melora Creager (Rasputina). Also lending her voice to the soundtrack is the edgy pop star Poe. Japanese musician and composer Yoshiki Haysahi (of the legendary rock band X-Japan) co-produced the music with Joe Bishara to create one of the most diverse soundtracks in movie history.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing   December 4, 2008
Mykel Madera (Miami, FL USA)
This CD is a addictive combination of Rock and Opera that will make you never want to remove it from your CD player. There is a nice variety between the songs ranging from sad and mournful, to playful, to murderous, to sexy. The quality is perfect, the vocals are clear, and the background music is a masterpiece in itself. The only downside is that two of these songs are not in the theatrical version of the movie (on the other hand, how will you ever hear the songs otherwise if you don't buy it?).

5 out of 5 stars Repo Man!   November 30, 2008
David Becker (Henderson, NV USA)
This is one of the best albums I have heard in quite some time. The music is superb and gives you the gist of the film's story. You will not be let down.

4 out of 5 stars A bloody, Gothic opera   November 26, 2008

I've listened to this album several times and also went to the opera's website to get more details about the plot since the movie has not come to Peoria, IL. The story is very unusual, bloody, and weird; but, I have a strange sense of humor, and so I think I will enjoy seeing the opera when it gets released on DVD. I certainly liked the music.

I found the music to be quite compelling and I enjoyed the dark, pulsating beat of most of the soundtrack. The soundtrak opens up with "At the Opera" a rousing musical introduction of most of the characters.

This soundtrack is not for the squimish - the subject matter like the music is dark. Also there is lots cussing. The cussing doesn't bother me, but some people might be offended.

Some of the more memorable tracks:

Infected: Has a rousing beat and good lyrics: "I'm infected by your genetics. I don't think I can be fixed. Why, oh why, are my genetics such a [...]!"

Bravi: Creats a fun, carnival-like, mad atmosphere.

21st Century Cure: Tells the background of the story - if one gets an organ transplant and doesn't pay up the repo man will take the organ back by force!

Repo Man: A rousing homage, more spoken the sung, has some good guitar and a very good beat and explains who the repo man is.

"And until our debts are cleared, we will live in fear of the Repo Man!

How true in real life too!

I am eagerly anticipating the DVD release of the Repo! The Genetic Opera* so I can actually watch this quirky, but bloddly, rock opera. I think I'll also get more enjoyment out of this soundtrack if have watched the opera.

5 out of 5 stars I Get Goosebumps!   November 26, 2008

This soundtrack is amazing. The movie was spectacular and the music is one of the very best parts of it. The sound quality on the songs is fantastic and sounds great. I'm not knowledgeable about music except for that fact that I listen to it constantly, so this is just coming from an avid listener, but I can't say enough great things about this soundtrack.

Each song has a great sound and all of them are very catchy. One or two listens and you'll be singing along to your favorites. My favorite is Things You See In A Graveyard. Every time I listen to that song I get goosebumps.

Honestly, buy it, listen to it, see the movie and I hope you love and adore it like I do!

3 out of 5 stars Maybe it's better with the visuals...   November 25, 2008
crown of indica (saint paul,mn,usa)
This is a "metal/goth" opera that wants to be the next big cult film phenomenon (a-la Rocky Horror Picture Show) with young and impressionable high-schoolers in the same way that "Twilight" has tried to.
To sum in up in one sentence, I'd say that if you're not familiar with technical rock music and like the conventional stuff that gets played on "metal" radio like Slipknot,Evanescence, etc. then you'd probably like this and should give it a try.
On the other hand, I thought that the songs were o.k. but the musicianship is conventional to a T,the chick singer(is that Paris Hilton or Asia Argento?)had the most annoying "sexy/sassy" vocal style ever, and the whole project came off as something weird-just-for-the-sake-of-being-weird instead of something that put it's aesthetic above it's need-to-succeed.
However,Sarah Brightman's contributions are great and Bill Moseley(AKA Choptop from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and the Cornbugs band w/ guitarist Buckethead)has the best parts/songs in the whole thing.
I shouldn't blast this thing without seeing the film, which I'll do eventually because Bill Moseley's in it,but from what I've gathered so far it seems like stuff for the black eyeliner/lipstick crowd,14-24 year-olds.Yes,there are many big names from the rock industry involved in it(Clown from Slipknot, Skinny Puppy, etc.)but I didn't hear anything about the music that was more than going through the motions.
