Amazon.com Almost any way you look at it, the Carly Simon of the '70s was pretty cool. Her acerbic wit and nasally expressive voice had people comparing her to Carole King, but there was also a weary androgyny to her that wouldn't be seen again until the arrival of Chrissy Hynde. Her songs rocked without quite being rock songs, and were folk-evocative without falling into the singer-songwriter bins. She scored multiple singles hits yet pulled off albums with the best of her contemporaries. This is an early collection, so it misses "Nobody Does It Better" and other later hits. Regardless, nearly all the songs here are worth having. Flavorful and nourishing--and a good package, besides. --Gavin McNett
Album Description Import pressing features 'Why' as an additional bonus track over the US version. The first and still the best of the many Carly Simon compilations available, 1975's THE BEST OF CARLY SIMON is an all-meat, no-filler collection of most of the folk-pop singer/songwriter's best and biggest songs. Looking over the track listing, one is reminded of just how many classic songs Simon was responsible for in the early '70s. "That's the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be", "The Right Thing to Do", "Haven't Got Time For the Pain", "Anticipation", and of course "You're So Vain" still sound remarkably solid. This is particularly impressive considering the amount of radio time they've all gotten in the intervening decades. Simon's husky voice and smart, piano-based arrangements don't sound nearly as dated as those of many of her contemporaries, and while THE BEST OF CARLY SIMON may qualify as a guilty pleasure in some minds, it's a pleasure nonetheless. 11 tracks. Trip down memory lane October 7, 2008 M. Kruk (L.I., NY) I've been waiting to buy this cd for the longest time and it was worth the wait... remembering all the old songs took me back many years when life was simpler and I was much younger...each song reminds me of a different chapter in my life..... thanks for the trip back down memory lane
Some songs overplayed so her work is underrated September 16, 2008 Carol W, (Pennsylvania) One of my faves, Anticipation was used for a ketchup ad and really devalued the song. I can't listen to it now without thinking of the condiment. That has taken away from the quality of her work. Yes her tunes are catchy but the arrangements and lyrics are first rate. One of the most cynical songs is 'That's the way I've always heard it should be'. It was not a huge hit but I think it's one of her best. Her sensibility may be commercial but most of her songs are beautifully crafted. The melodies stick in your head, even if you don't want them to. Too bad she has a phobia about performing, otherwise I'd love to see a concert.

Carly has such a beautiful voice March 1, 2008 Johnny Boy (Hockessin, DE) I'm a longtime fan of Carly Simon. I wanted a CD of hers, and I wanted a cheap one with excellent sound. So, 'The Best of Carly Simon' was an excellent solution. This is an excellent Carly set that documents her years on the Elektra label in the 1970s. You get plenty of hits here. 'Mockingbird,' the duet with her then-husband James Taylor, 'You're So Vain,' 'Attitude Dancing,' and of course 'That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be.' If you want her '70s chart hits, you'll find most of them here. And, as I said earlier, Elektra did an excellent job remastering the songs. If you're just starting your Carly collection, I recommend this set and her 1982 record 'Torch.' If you're a casual fan, than this is all you'll probably ever need. An excellent set. Highly recommended. ENJOY!!!
good Ole Carly***** November 21, 2007 Andrea Whiting (north carolina) The new release of the old vinyl is as good or better than the original. My adult son and I are playing it endlessly.
