| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com The Belfast Cowboy is one of the most mercurial and gloriously inconsistent live performers of his generation, as notorious for his onstage sulks and autopilot off-nights as he is justly celebrated for incandescent live sets that burn in the memory. This 1994 double-CD set, Van Morrison's third solo live album, doesn't surpass either his mid-'70s triumph, It's Too Late to Stop Now, or his Belfast homecoming on 1984's Live at the Grand Opera House, but a generous set and a typically taut, virtuosic stage band are tempting inducements, as is a repertoire that mixes both old and more recent Morrison originals with some shrewd covers. With Georgie Fame his staunch right hand (on organ and backing vocals), and his overexposed band singers, Brian Kennedy and James Hunter, Morrison digs into some particularly ripe medleys, interpolating King Pleasure, Sly Stone, T-Bone Walker, Sam Cooke, Jimmy Witherspoon, Gene Vincent, Roy Orbison, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Doc Pomus along the way. --Sam Sutherland

Talent August 25, 2008 groovechic (New Rochelle, New York United States) When you listen to this album you know you are listening to the real professionals. and boy can they groove and swing and be tight at the same time!!!
Van the Man... December 7, 2007 Saucy Jack (L.A., California) Not "Too Late To Stop Now", but awesome for a collaborative effort. "In The Garden/You Send Me/Allegheny" is worth the price of the CD alone but there are many more smokin' performances. This far surpasses "Live at the Grand Opera House Belfast" IMO. Definitely worth picking up for any Van fan.
tour de force October 8, 2007 A. Dumville (Providence, RI United States) Big Van fan and just picked up this album. I've written previously about Van's ability to combine songs (the live version of In The Afternoon/Raincheck), I won't call them medleys as it really transcends one song transitioning to the next. It's more of Van deconstructing two songs and building a new, entirely engaging one. He'll even put lyrics of one song to the melody of an other and it'll take you a few seconds to think "WOW!". The result is magical to say the least. So if you're concerned about medleys, open your mind in this case. The next aspect of this album is the musicians involved. Van's brought together John Lee Hooker, Georgie Fame, Junior Wells...that's as good as it gets. As for Brian Kennedy, he's an acquired taste, and perhaps in small doses, adds an interesting vocal, but I have to say...not quite my cup of tea. And Shana Morrison is not in this league, though she appears just once I believe. All in all, the talent of the talent of the band outweighs any shortcomings of Kennedy. Result: fantastic album. If you're a Van fan, you'll love it. P.S. It's available on iTunes for $10 if the $28 seems steep..though it's still worth the thirty bucks in my opinion.
Why Van is the Man ! August 4, 2007 Ian Bennett (London, Ontario Canada) Catch Van at his best, in this stunning live concert that demonstrates conclusively why he is so highly regarded by music fans. As he shouts at the end..."Is this band hot ?"...and it is. A sparkling series of performances that put other live albums to shame, and that you will listen to over and over again. Hard to get, but worth the wait if you order, this album will be a treasure to visit again and again.
WOW!!!!!!!!! June 9, 2007 Dave Fruge (Metairie, La. United States) I never was the hugest Van Morrison fan. I knew the hits on the radio, & just from that I could tell he touched on a wide range of genres; Rock & Roll, Light Rock, Contemporary, jazz. At one time in New Orleans, it was near impossible NOT to hear "Brown Eyed Girl" 10 times a day, & I quickly got burnt out & stopped my Van Morrison explorations before I really got started. Now, there have been several bands which I had touched on in the same way, (Springsteen, Little Feat, Tom Petty, Rush) & once I heard them live I went CRAZY over them, so when this was reccomended to me by Amazon, I figured, Why not? MAN, AM I GLAD I CHECKED THIS OUT!!! This blows his studio material AWAY!!! The band has a much bigger, fuller sound, & it sounds as if he took all of the styles I forementioned, added blues to the mix, & combined them all to make a new SUPER-GENRE!! It also has the benefit of making you FEEL like you're THERE!! It sounds like Van is a MASTER SHOWMAN who is determined to give his fans something extra when they come to see him! His voice seems to have gotten a little deeper with age, (WHO'S HASN'T) but it's just as strong & soulful as ever!!If you want to hear what Van Morrison can really do, or even if you just appreciate good music & want to hear something new, CHECK THIS OUT!!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
