Album Description The incomparable Ashanti is back with "The Declaration"!!This multiple Grammy winner and R&B superstar has delivered some of her most powerful and passionate songs yet. "The Declaration" features the smash hit "The Way That I Love", which showcases the power of Ashanti's soulful voice as she tells the heart wrenching story of a scorned lover. This 13 song set is Ashanti's 4th studio album and first since 2004. Ashanti has been busy developing her acting career with John Tucker Must Die, Coach Carter, and Resident Evil, and now she returns to deliver a career defining album!
Album Description Ashanti is a woman on a mission with the 'I Declare Me' campaign focusing on the empowerment of women's issues kicking off in spring 2008. 'I Declare Me' is a take on her LP title The Declaration, which was an accomplishment of personal empowerment for Ashanti having written and co-produced many songs on this her 2008 album. Ashanti felt that it was important to tell her story to other women to encourage them to dream big and focus on their own personal sense of empowerment from their career, to relationships, etc. Ashanti will be the spokesperson for the 'Hip To Be Fit' organization focusing on Teen Obesity and she will also be doing PSAs for Lifetime TV for their 'Every Woman Counts' campaign which focuses on women voter registration.

Sounds Dated... August 11, 2008 R&B Producer (Detroit, MI) Honestly, "The Way That I Love You" is probably the best song on this CD (although I hated the video, yet another "Go Kill Yo Man if he cheats on you" video. Sorry, but D'Angelo already did it. But I digress... I can't name one memorable track aside from that single. The album was terrible and I can't see myself listening to it again. Initially when I read the reviews, I thought that a lot of people were just hating on her, but after listening to the CD, sadly I have to agree. Whoever picked her song/track selection needs to be shot.
GREAT COMEBACK WITHOUT GOTTI OR JA RULE!! August 7, 2008 Ryan E. Spears (ATLANTA, GA) THIS ALBUM IS REALLY GOOD AND I DIDNT EXPECT IT TO BE! MY FAVORITE TRACK ON THE CD IS,"SO OVER YOU," PRODUCED BY RODNEY JERKINS. THE BEAT IS HARD AND YOU CAN FEEL THE ENERGY IN THE SONG AND LYRICS. BUT OUT OF 13 SONGS I LOVE 9 SO ITS 5-STAR TO ME. ALSO CHECK OUT STRUGGLE, YOU'RE GONNA MISS, GOOD GOOD!!!
ASHANTI July 31, 2008 Veronica Clark (JAMAICA, NY USA) PRODUCT WAS GREAT, HAD SOME HITS ON THERE THAT GOT LITTLE RADIO PLAY? I THINK ASHANTI WAS OVERLOOKED AS AN ARTIST, BECAUSE NO ONE REALLY KNOWS HER BACKGROUND. SHE IS REALLY STARTING TO COME OUT NOW ESPECIALLY WITH HER UNASSOCIATION WITH THE MURDA INK LABEL...ONLY THING NOW THAT SHE IS ON HER OWN....SHE IS OFTEN LABELED AS BEING A BEYONCE-WANNA BE....SO SAD FOR THOSE TO MAKE A COMMENT SUCH AS THIS,BECAUSE SHE ALWAYS HAD HER OWN STYLE, AND FRANKLY SAYING,.. BEYONCE WAS NEVER REALLY ON HER OWN SHE HAD A GROUP AND A FATHER WHO PUSHED HER,....ASHANTI ON THE OTHER HAND HAD VERY LITTLE FROM WHAT I COULD TELL, AND HAS MANAGED TO BE ONE OF THE HOTTEST ACTS IN TOWN....ASHANTI YOU GO GIRL....DONT BE FOOLISH......YOU ARE A CONCRETE ROSE AND YOU WILL BE AROUND....
Ashanti "The Declaration" July 20, 2008 Olivia A. Baldwin (Montgomery, AL) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This a hot new sound for Ashanti. It's her best CD thus far! Every song on the CD is wonderful. Ashanti's back and has, without a doubt, claimed her stake in the music industry.
Not enough "meat" on the inside July 19, 2008 Nils Valentin (Tokyo, Japan) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ashanti's CD is not enough to convince the inside characteristics of the songs. To many times we have heard those whohoos and aahs from other stars before, and more vibrant, more convincing and with a longer breath. Whats missing is the "Ashanti" experience - in short originality. It feels like she took the characteristics of previous famous stars, mixed them all together and produced her own, but unfortunately with the above mentioned shortcomings. I can see how this CD is played in cafes, shopping malls, airport lounges etc. once or twice and then probably vanish. Overall the CD has 4-5 out of 13 listenable songs but nothing that many will remember after 2-3 years. The songs that look most promising are "Things you make me do" "Good Good" "Body on me" "Shine" and perhaps "The Declaration" I wish there would be more "Highlights". For now I think its fair to evaluate this CD as Ashantis case study of trying to find her own style.
