Amazon.com On Just Like You, her sophomore disc, Keyshia Cole proves for a second time--for sure and way beyond the shadow of a doubt--that she's headed for Mary J. Blige-style hugeness. If 2005's The Way It Is won fans for its bottomless vocal appeal and mild grit, Just Like You scores with a more potent and refined dose of the same. Right out of the gate these tracks grab hold: "Let It Go" latches onto a groove and rides it hard, and not just because Lil' Kim and Missy Elliott are gripping, too. It's a Keyshia-derived attitude, an even-keeled brand of cool, that seeps into all 14 songs and gives them heft and substance. Hear it on "Got to Get My Heart Back" and "Give Me More," two of the best and most honest-sounding tracks on a disc that got a lot of help--Diddy guests, and so do T.I., Too $hort, and Young Dro--but clearly didn't need it. Count on Just Like You landing on a lot of R&B top 10 lists for 2007. --Tammy La Gorce
Album Description LAST YEAR KEYSHIA COLE ROSE TO BECOME AN R&B PHENOMENON. USA Today said Cole separates herself from the average R&B/pop diva, as she makes you feel her heartbreak without the histrionics; and People said- [Keyshia Cole] shows that she is more than just a pretender on the thrown and Rolling Stone said Cole serves up grit beyond her years. Her fans agreed, The Way It Is went PLATINUM. Keyshia's sophomore album entitled Just Like You demonstrates that with earnest desire and dedication you can succeed; anyone can, like you!

3 1/2 stars - Just Like Mary? August 11, 2008 E.J. Rupert (Milwaukee, WI) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Keyshia Cole - Just Like You (Geffen, 2007) When Keyshia Cole stepped on the scene with The Way It Is in 2005, people already started comparing her to Mary J. Blige. Why every single R&B songstress who throws a little hip-hop and some cuss words into the mix get compared to Mary is anyone's guess but I know one thing: the comparisons certainly won't stop with Cole's latest effort, Just Like You. (Surprisingly, Cole's now on the same label as Mary.) You have Mary's knack for singing over a sample on the lead single, "Let it Go" (featuring Missy Elliott and Lil' Kim). I tried to hate this song because of the use of the played-out "Juicy Fruit" sample but it's too damn catchy. Also, Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins produced Keyshia's second single, "Shoulda Let You Go", the same way that he produced Mary's "Enough Cryin", her second single from The Breakthrough. I could keep going on and on with the comparisons (including the way she sings "la-dee-dah-da-dah" during "Give Me More", reminiscent of Mary on 1994's "My Life"), but it's more important to note that Keyshia is still a great singer in her own right. "I Remember", "Got to Get My Heart Back", "Heaven Sent" and "Fallin' Out" are all worthy tracks to be on constant repeat. But the material can get very dreary. Simply put, if you're a lady and you just broke up with your man, don't listen to this album while you're alone in your room drinking or else you may hurt yourself. If you can't tell with some of the song titles I mentioned, this isn't exactly India.Arie music. Even the chart-topping Diddy duet, "Last Night", which was a no-brainer to put on this album, is about heartbreak. But it doesn't matter what Keyshia may sing about or from whom she may have been influenced. She's got the voice and the image to be liked by girls and considered by guys to be a down-a** chick. If you're down with that, then Just Like You is just for you. -EJR

Keyshia Cole proving she belongs July 12, 2008 J. Beilke (minnesota) Keyshia Cole proves that her album puts her in the elite of r&b ladies . I think everyone knows let it go, heavan sent and the other tracks she has released . Keyshia boats a impressive list of guests from Missy Elliott to lil Kim along with P.Diddy . Keyshia's vocal abilites really shine on this effort as she proves to be one of the best female vocalists on the scene .The cd appears to me to have a good replay value as even after purchasing it awhile back I can still throw it and enjoy . Keyshia seems to have a stronger presence than say Rhianna or some of the other r&b ladies who can't really match her talents . I was not sold on Keyshia after her previous efforts but this one seems to have clicked something in her as she delievers a number of strong tracks .
Good CD July 9, 2008 L. Barron (Philadelphia, PA USA) I wasnt sure what to expect when I first bought the cd but its a good cd to own. I would recommend buy it.
