Extraordinary single disc compilation of one of the preeminent R & B outfits of all-time.October 15, 2008 Paul Tognetti(Cranston, RI USA) It all began in the City of Angels in 1969 when the Chicago bred producer/songwriter/vocalist/percussionist Maurice White and his brother Verdine formed an R & B group that they dubbed Salty Peppers. Less than two years later the brothers hired a new band and added lead vocalist Philip Bailey to the mix. Thus was born Earth, Wind & Fire and as they say the rest is history. Over the next 18 years the group would amass an impressive total of 32 Top 100 records. "Earth Wind & Fire: Greatest Hits" is an impressive collection of 17 of the groups biggest and best hits from this period. If you haven't heard this stuff for a while then you are in for a real treat! Of all of the hits of Earth Wind & Fire perhaps my very favorite is the 1978 release "September". It is virtually impossible not to get up and "shake your booty" when this one is playing. It was also fun to hear once again the groups only #1 pop single "Shining Star" from 1975 as well as other great hits like "Sing A Song", "After The Love Is Gone", and the fabulous collaboration with the Emotions "Boogie Wonderland" which was all the rage on the dance floor back in 1979. Other notable hits in this collection are "Getaway", "That's The Way Of The World", and "Serpentine Fire". I am betting that you will enjoy each and every one of the tracks on this disc. With the release of their 23rd album entitled "Illumination" Earth Wind & Fire continues to make great music. The group is still thrilling audiences across the country and has just finished an impressive three month concert tour. Earth Wind & Fire was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the year 2000. The group has also been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and is the recipient of BET's Lifetime Achievement award. If you do not own a collection of their music then I can report that "Earth Wind & Fire: Greatest Hits" is definitely the disc you want. And lest I forget the remastering job is outstanding. Highly recommended!
A purchase that worths more than the priceOctober 5, 2008 Antonio C. L. Barros As I already knew most of the songs I cannot say I was surprised with the content of the CD. If you are a EW&F fan this is a must in your collection. The quality of the sound is also very good. This is the kind of purchase that makes you happy, no matter how much you have paid for it.
