Superb October 19, 2008 L. Scholl (Florida) I love this CD. I bought it back when it was first released and have been through 2 discs. Living in Florida and missing my Mid-western Illinois Autumns, this music allows me the joy of Fall. Not sure it was meant to do that but somehow it does. Relaxing and transporting...I never tire of this disc.
Excellent!!! April 6, 2008 N. Law 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Appalachian Waltz shows the best of American music with premier performers. A delightful experience.
Ground-breaking album March 23, 2008 Crepe-suzette (Los Angeles, California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This album defies categorization. It is a mind-blowing combination of strings that hits a deep emotional chord with me. Pure joy. Don't be fooled by the title of the cd: Appalachia Waltz. It is not a traditional bluegrass or Appalachian music album; far from it. If you like experimental music you will love this, it has an avant-garde sensibility to it, yet has a melodic classical element as well. I can't recommend this album highly enough.
Nice mixer of worlds December 11, 2007 G. Troszczewski 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Classical influence on this area of music is done tastefully and the music is very enjoyable.
Welcome to "alternative" classical music! February 19, 2007 Ellen B. Jones (Bend OR) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
It's wonderful to hear three such talented musicians put together a collection of non-classical music on revered instruments. This is not "The Yo-yo Ma Show" with two other guys! The music is varied but the performances are great and -- in some cases, e.g. Appalachia Waltz -- fantastic. I was driving the first time I heard the title piece and immediately started sobbing and had to pull over; it was that beautiful! This would be a good CD choice for children to listen to, as it gives a fine exposure to the amazing sounds that the three instruments can make when in the right hands.
