Mike Patton DID NOT Compose a Score to a Film... July 7, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
The movie is not worth the time, but that is not why you would buy this CD/DVD. The soundtrack is out of place and is used on several occations as source music. The characters are listening to the music on the radio, it is not at all intended to underscore actions or enhance the mood of the film. If you are looking for Mike Patton's premier film score this is not it, he did not "compose" a film score because the filmmaker failed to use music in such a way. So is it good quality Mike Patton music? Yeah maybe but so what; after you watch the film you wont care about any of that because what you thought was going to Patton's debut film score was nothing but a few typical Patton formulas played over acting.
A perfect place June 16, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Big mike patton fan.. The soundtrack is great.. Thats the reason i bought the album .. Its the type of music where you can sit on you're friends couch and space out for hours. Most of pattons music is that or u feel like you're on a Mind trip.. As for the film it was terrible could of been a little longer and had better acting.. They must of filmed this short in a day or two...AHH THANK GOD FOR MIKE PATTON.
Mike Patton is perfect once again May 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mike Patton writes and performs a great sound track for this movie. The movie itself is funny and the music fits perfect! If you like most Mike Patton stuff, you will have no problem with this. Very, very glad I bought it. I cant wait to see what he does next!!!
More from the Maestro! May 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Patton has released this CD in conjunction with a short film. 'A perfect place' is the soundtrack to the film of the same title.
Let's face it... the film is not going to win any awards, but Patton probably never will either. He's not mainstream, and I don't know if I, as a fan, ever wish that upon him. The soundtrack, however, is brilliant. It's another soundscape from Patton that really delivers. Some of his work is simply inaccessible, but this lets you in!
You won't be tapping your foot for an hour and a half, and you won't be singing along to the catchy tunes and brigh melodies. But what you will be doing is staring at a spot on the floor from the moment this CD starts to the moment it finishes. It's briliiantly done in the sense that the score has a journey to it; a life all of its own independent of the film.
So often, soundtrack to flicks have a real haphazard quality about them; even when the soundtrack is composed for the film, and not just a compilation CD. This release however appears to have had as much work done on the score as the film... perhaps more.
It's about time! May 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
So, I'm a Mike Patton junkie....but I'm one of those junkies that can admit when something he does sucks, so I don't feel too biased in saying that this is brilliant...
The fact that the film and the score come together, makes this one of the most sensible purchases of the year. The film is exactly what you'd expect, It looks gorgeous, and holds your interest, The performances are great, and it's a shame that this is essentially coming into the world as a cult film, because more people should be able to see it.
The score is one Patton fans have waited for for years...it's the type of score that can be used as background music when you're driving, or cleaning the house, but that also begs to have you sit down with a glass of wine and just absorb it all, every note, and every sound. Rare is the music that lets you do both of those things with it.
