cool in the truest sense August 20, 2008 crown of indica (saint paul,mn,usa) I'm not sure about most people today, but with 90% of the music video dvds that are released I watch the clips on Youtube before buying because hey--it's gotta be worth the $,right?Well, this is one you need not bother to preview:it's well made, sounds great, and the performances are perfect. It's not your usual "bootleg-to-dvd" fare.If you don't know Kadaa and only know Patton this music's an aquired taste, but if you're into the composition end of Patton's work you'll appreciate Kadaa's awesome imagination with the darkly dreamy peices. The floating, surrealistic jellyfish on the cover convey how the music feels perfectly!
Give it a chance June 2, 2008 Michael Armpriester (Lebanon, P.A.) Mike Patton is the very best. I'm a huge fan and I own the cd of this also. Honestly, it wasn't one of my faves at first. I still like his heavier stuff more but, seeing him and the band perform this stuff was really cool and I got into it a lot more. I've seen him in person 7 times now but, never with John Kaada. Now I wish I would have. Again, if you really like Patton, you already know anything else I could say. It's Patton and it's great!!!!
Consistently Patton May 4, 2008 N. Gray (Melbourne, Australia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great release; a rare glimpse of Patton at work beyond the gloomy mask of Bungle or the psychotic front of FNM. Patton is an elusive man, and it is hard to feel as though one has a grasp of what he is trying to say through his music as a result. As an artist, we hope that he is communicating something, but with such diversity throughout his career, one can be forgiven for wondering what on earth Patton is on about at times! (don't get me wrong. I'm a huge fan, and even though there have been some real "what the..." moments, I have been faithful in my pursuit of his art!) This release shows the side of Patton that says, 'Music is music. I sing, therefore I am.' I put it in the same file as Kang's 'Virginal Coordinates' release, where Patton lent his voice, and took an amazing piece of music and made it uniquely Patton; often without saying one word... just humming along to the melody! Patton's release with Kaada on CD again gave us Patton's voice, which is second to none in this genre, but this DVD has given us Patton the PERSON (at least, Patton and what he looks like when he enters into the experience of making music!); a look at why this Patton/Kaada release was something that he lent his voice to. I've said bugger all about the product itself (e.g., 'song such and such just makes me want to squirt tears all over my persian cat every time I hear it...' It has a lot to do with the fact that I don't have a persian, and it's not that depressing a product). That's because my opinion of the product will be different from yours. But what I have commented on is the resulting feeling I get when I enter into Patton's world. This DVD has helped me understand more about the message of an artist. I wonder if more DVD's of Patton's work (such as 'Adult Themes For Voice' or 'Pranzo Oltranzista' to name a few... two, to be precise) might just make them a little more accessible to people wanting to share the journey of Patton's music???
This was worth it March 3, 2008 I. K. (justice, il, usa) I'm very excited I decided to buy this DVD...watching and listening to Romances live was unbelievable. ...to Patton and Kaada fans, it's a must!
Patton / Kaada February 15, 2008 Joseph T. Margagnoni (MA) Unbeliveable!!! Beautiful music! If you like most of Mike's stuff you will certainly like this. Quality is great. Cool practice outakes as well.
