Album Description Finally got this one on CD! Bill Cosby is never better than when reminiscing about his childhood, which is why this record was his highest-charting release of the '70s. Includes Buck Jones, Dogs, Frogs, My Boy Scout Troop, My Brother Russell, My Father, M

Bill's gonna show you a thing or two November 13, 2004 Johnny Heering (Bethel, CT United States) This album by Bill Cosby came out after he left Warner Brothers. Bill's post-Warner's material is often considered to be inferior, but this is still a very funny album. A lot of the material is about Bill's childhood, and highlights include the story of Bill's hernia, and remembrances of Bill's favorite cowboy actor Buck Jones. I also have to say that I like the album cover, which is a drawing of Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. Cosby's fans should enjoy this album.
Cosby At Westbury-Now on CD! March 2, 2003 R. Goepfert (Syracuse, NY United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
"When I Was A Kid" is finally out on CD. This album was recorded on Halloween 1970 at Westbury Music Fair on Long Island. This is the prime fillet of the show that Cos put on that night. How do I know? Because I was there when the tapes were rolling and had the original vinyl LP that stated that it was recorded at Westbury. There were a few things left off the original album and hence the new CD. Cosby did a lot of interplay with his audience before getting down to some serious comedy that evening. There was also his "Wallie Wallie" routine that later appeared on another album. What we have here is choice Cosby, relating the very funny storis about his growing up. I remember (and it still cracks me up some 32 years later) the story about his getting a hermia. I also remember the bit about Russell and the Buck Jones story. All are very funny and will give you a warm glow hearing them either for the first or millionth time. Many may not find this as timeless as his earlier albums, but I think it is one of his best. It's warm, funny and a great reminder why Bill has become our generation's answer to Will Rogers.
Wish MY childhood was this funny! December 12, 2002 Joe Gunderson (Grand Forks, ND United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bill Cosby in my opinion is the funniest man on this earth right now. With the way he delivers his jokes, stories and sound effects he is probably the most respected comedian of his era. This album in particular is one of his best. Especially his routines "My Hernia", "My Brother Russell," and "My Father". These routines in particular will have you rolling on the floor, holding your sides and gasping for air you are laughing so hard! I highly recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of Bill Cosby.
