"God of Our Fathers" makes this CD. February 12, 2007 C. Messick (Tuscaloosa, AL, USA) I played the exact same arrangement of "God of Our Fathers" while I was in high school. It is one of the most memorable, and emotional pieces we played, and we played alot of that type of stuff. This song is THE reason I bought this CD, and is the reason I gave it 4 stars-- except for this song, all the other songs are your standard military fare: mainly marches and hymns. Thomas Knox's arrangement of "God of Our Fathers" will give you goosebumps throughout... and may even make you get a lump in your throat-- even if you aren't a religious person.
Blessing of Music January 14, 2004 Sam (Washington, DC) Only the most cynical cold dark heart could not be touched by this glorious music. It is truly a blessing to the ears. A blessing from god and the marine band. This soothing calming music helps me in my times of need. It makes me proud to be from a country with such a strong tradition of greatness. This CD reflects that tradition. The dynamic tones and powerful sounds lift and lighten my load. I'm sure it will do the same for you
Odd Selections December 4, 2003 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This CD does not present the Marine band at its best. A lot of the music presented here looks like it was intended for internal use only and was never meant to be sold to the public for profit by a private none-goverment recording company. This would account for the odd selection of music, and the limited playing time of under 50 minutes.
Poor Recording August 8, 2000 24 out of 28 found this review helpful
A very strange selection. This Altissimo recording is just another re-release of material that is available from the military for free. Through a legal technicality - Altissimo obtains these recordings for free and re-releases them to the public without the military ensemble receiving anything in return. As a result, the disc contains a limited and peculiar selection of material that was never intended to be placed on a commercial CD. Buy another recording.
