classic. March 23, 2004 Chris Whitehead (AUSTIN, TX United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This to me is an underrated CD, it gets tagged with lounge but it truly is so much more. If I was going to create a label, it would be Southwestern Psychedelia. So that sounds really silly but heres the deal...FODM takes elements of jazz, country, Santo and Johnny (Sleepwalk is a good reference for this album),pop and more and puts it together beautifully. The band at this time featured John Convertino and Joey Burns of Calexico (Joey wrote some of the songs too). Listen to the tracks and youll love it.
The "Friends" best album by far October 18, 2002 Elvis-from-Hell (Fort Lauderdale, FL USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a beautiful, haunting album of southwest soundscapes. It's the perfect record to play in the car while driving the lonely back roads of Arizona and New Mexico. The only other "Friends" album that comes close to this one, IMHO, is "Wichita Lineman." A great album.
It's a peach March 26, 2002 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Is it lounge? Is it country? Either way it's as fine an album as you can ask for. Try playing it for that special "someone".It always worked for me.
this album is awesome April 18, 1999 David Banks (jbanks@horizon.hit.net) (Kansas) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
My cousin gave me this disc for Christmas a few years back and after a few listens I was hooked. At first, I didn't know about it but the music just grew on me in a way that I have never felt before. I then bought the second album by this band and loved it as well but this album takes the cake. I love the way the steel guitar replaces the vocals in "All the Pretty Little Horses." It's great. You'll love it too.
