Amazon.com The U.K.'s Mick Hucknall, globally renowned as lead vocalist for Simply Red, brings his world-class, blue-eyed soul front and center for his highly anticipated solo debut album, Tribute To Bobby. The disc was recorded to salute one of Hucknall's prime inspirations, legendary American blues vocalist Bobby "Blue" Bland. Described as a "master class in soul, blues and R&B," it features Hucknall's distinctive interpretations of twelve classic songs that were signature hits for Bland. At the same time that Hucknall honors the essence of the songs, and Bland's major influence on his artistry, he also infuses each take with the compelling stylistic imprint that's made Simply Red so enduringly popular.
Album Description CD/DVD (PAL/Region 0) special edition. Simply Red frontman Mick Hucknall releases his first solo album 'Tribute To Bobby', a collection of songs taken from the back catalogue of the enormously influential singer Bobby 'Blue' Bland. From the late 1950s onward, Bland's version ofsoul, blues and RnB helped set the tone and standard of theera. Hucknall's vocals do a great job of maintaining the power and sentiment of each song, while also making them his own. Tracks include 'Farther Up The Road' and 'Cry Cry Cry'. The DVD features a documentary filmed in Memphis, Tennessee in November 2007.

Great music! November 22, 2008 Margaret K. Lambert ((near) Baltimore, MD) This CD is a great find - just perfect to listen to at work - not too jarring for those around you. I love it....the songs and the voice are terrific. Any of my coworkers who have passed my desk while I was playing this CD actually stopped to asked who was singing. And a few actually bought it after that. A good find.
WOW.... Very good CD, October 31, 2008 K. Frazier (NJ United States) so why did i sleep on this? I love the CD Stay, as with all Simply Red Cd's. I keep for getting that Simply Red is a group, not a person. I first heard this song while switching up ipods in my car. As I was doing this the radio came on, and i hear this nice beat, and the voice of lead singer of Simply Red, so i am thinking, I know the voice, but did not recall the song, as I have all the CD's of Simply Red. So i had to hear the entire song, as another person is singing,, and later to find out it's Bobby Blue Bland. I had to search the net for any new simply red stuff. I could not find it until i did a search for the song 'Up the Road'. Bang! I found it, so i see this is the lead singer of simply red, and this has been out since the summer. I had to download this , and later i will get the CD so i can read all the credits and stuff. I enjoy this, and Glad to know he is still with the group.

i heard this opening song on the radio, couldn't get out o fthe ar until it finished. Went inside, couldn't find it on itunes. I then wrote the DJ an e-mail to find out who the singer was and the name of the CD. Found it right away when he responded, and now i am wearing it out.
He's got the vocal style down pat, but the arrangements... July 30, 2008 Eli Marcus (Tel Aviv, Israel) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I must admit up front that I have never been a Simply Red or a Mick Hucknall fan. I am a BIG fan of Bobby Blue Bland however, and even met and interviewed him a couple of years ago. Bobby Blue Bland is one of the greatest Blues vocalists of the last 50 years, and he certainly deserves to be rediscovered by a young new audience. From the samples here I can say that Mick Hucknall definitely knows the vocal stylings of Bobby Blue Bland, he's got most of the Blue Bland style down, everything but the Blue Bland growl. But the arrangements are a bit too commercial "sweet pop" for my taste - they really don't make the album attractive to me, and I have a feeling that most die-hard Blues fans will feel the same. Of course, I sincerely wish Mick all the success in the world, so that Bobby Blue Bland gets some major exposure as a result of this project - it's about time he got some big time recognition. He's the greatest Blues singer still alive.
Best thing I had ever bought! July 28, 2008 Ivy Rose S. Baleto 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This tribute is worth my money. I am very happy to have bought this album. Bobby Bland is definitely a wonderful singer. But Mick Hucknall had captured the music that was missing in my life. Thank you Mick and thank you Bobby for making music the way it should be.
