If you are expecting to hear the same catchy tunes as from the movie, you will be in for a surprise.
Not just jumping on the bandwagon. September 24, 2002 Linwood I. Greer (Richmond, VA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I realize that the entire recording industry seems to be cranking out O Brother [duplicates] in their confusion as to where the popularity of this great stuff comes from but this selection isn't one of them. It's a fine sampler of roots music featuring interesting early variations on a couple of the songs from the soundtrack as well as some fine representations of classic string bands, bluegrass and blues. While most collectors will have these cuts already, this cd serves as a great introduction for folks interested in delving deeper now that they've heard the wonderful renditions on the movie soundtrack. Buy one for yourself and one to give as a gift. Share the culture.
wonderful and engaging June 17, 2002 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
A collection of music in the vein of the "O Brother" and "Down From The Mountain" albums - but these are original artists or vintage recordings. Includes two very different versions each of "O Death" and "I'm A Man Of Constant Sorrow."
original/vintage versions of songs from the soundtrack June 17, 2002 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
Here are many of the songs from the "O Brother Where Art Thou" and "Down from the Mountain" CDs, performed either by the original artists or in vintage renditions, as well as other great songs in the "roots and blues" vein. An interesting and enjoyable comparison/companion to the soundtrack albums.
