Their self titled 1985 debut and 1987 s The Dark are considered by Metal affectionados as true bona fide classics. Since signing with SPV they have continued the tradition of high quality Metal releases with 2004 s The Weight Of The World and 2006 s A Light In The Dark . This Present Wasteland , Metal Church s ninth release, is a return to their roots and contains some of their strongest material to date. All hail the true Church of Metal: The Metal Church!
Customer Reviews:
Extremely solid effort from a legendary (whats left of them) band!November 4, 2008 David S. Reid(PA) This album simply rocks. Every song is solid, with no throwaways. The title track leads off and is probably the strongest song. By far their best effort since Ronny Munro has taken over the vocals. Wish they were able to tour right away, but Kurt Vanderhoof's back is acting up, so their tour is on hold for six months.
If you are a Metal Church fan, you will love this. Do not hesitate to buy it. Well worth the $$$$.
I like it!November 1, 2008 Sandman(Canada) I've always been a fan of the Church ever since I saw them live. They were opening up for Metallica along with Sword in Verdon way back in 86 I believe it was.
Anyway they have always been pretty consistent with what they've put out and this cd continues down the same path which of course is a good thing. David Wayne was awesome and will be missed (RIP). However Ronnie is a good replacement for him and does a nice job carrying on the metal torch so to speak.
Their are a couple of standout tunes found on here, but overall it's not as grooving as the last one. Am I disappointed with it? Not at all as any Metal Church offering is always a welcome site.
They continue to put out meat and potatoes metal and that along deserves applause!!
I'd rate it a 4 out of 5 on the scale of greatness.

Good music but very poor singer. From a big fan of Metal Church. This album wo'nt be included in my collection that all!
excellent metal church-a classicOctober 24, 2008 Wreckedneck(jacksonville, florida United States) TO THOSE WHO LIKE METAL CHURCH THIS IS AN EXCELLENT ALBUM. "PERFECT CRIME" STARTS JUST LIKE A CLASSIC METAL CHURCH SONG. "DEEDS OF A DEAD SOUL" IT IS LIKE THE SONG BADLANDS, A TRUE HEAVY METAL SONG. THE SOUND IS GREAT, IT BEATS ANY OF THE LAST THREE ALBUMS METAL PUT OUT. i JUST WISH RONNIE WILL PUT OUT AN ALBUM TOGETHER WITH SINGER MIKE HOWE AND THE OLD METAL CHURCH MEMBERS...YOU JUST HAVE TO IMAGINE THE GREAT COMBINATION....EITHER WAY, RONNIE DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB....THIS IS A CLASSIC METAL CHURCH ALBUM, SO BUY IT PLUS ALSO PROBABLY THE BEST METAL HAS SEEN IN YEARS...
Decent, but not greatOctober 22, 2008 Chris Lund(Seattle, WA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My quick thoughts are this - it's a good offering of new Metal Church, but other than a few songs (In the company of sorrow, monster and war never won), it's kind of lacking. Nothing jumps out at you or says "yes, this is awesome." I'm sure I will listen to this CD from time to time, but in reality....there isn't anything to make someone come back to it. No killer riffs, catchy choruses, etc... I will say, the cover (done by a fan), is awesome!
