Amazon.co.uk Anyone familiar with cultish comedy series Flight of the Conchords will be aware of the wonderful songs that the hapless New Zealand duo Bret and Jemaine concoct for each episode. Tackling all genres, from hip hop and soul to glam rock, the duo create highly original and well-produced tracks that typically satirise the very genre they're imitating. This album collects together many of the show's best musical moments, many of them subtly revamped. "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros" and "Boom" illustrate the pair's hilarious rap skills. "Think About It" parodies socially minded soul visionaries such as Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield, "Bowie" satirises the 70s icon (especially his prodigious drug use), while "Inner City Pressure" mimics the Pet Shop Boys. Two of the most memorable songs from the series--"The Prince of Parties" and "The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room)"--are also both present, making this the definitive FOTC compilation. The humour ranges from offbeat to downright daft, but there's nothing laughable about the production, which is mostly first class. It's true they could have given us a few new songs, but then how many comedy albums can you repeatedly rewind and find yourself not only laughing, but dancing too? -- Paul Sullivan

FOTC is great but the show versions are better. August 26, 2008 Karl Beaver (FL) The album is good but I prefer the show versions of most of the songs. They are more authentic and feel 'funnier' than the album versions, which underwent too much producing and engineering in the studio for my taste. There were also a couple of my favorite lyrics left out on this album.
Flight of the Conchords - S/T 9/10 August 10, 2008 Rudy Klapper (Los Angeles / Orlando) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Finally, New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo has released their first real album. While fans have been able to hear Bret and Jemaine's highly entertaining brand of humor on HBO and live albums, Flight of the Conchords is their first full-length record. While there's something to be said for Flight of the Conchords' live records and actual concerts, which is one of the funniest things I have been privileged to attend, their debut album does manage to translate a good portion of their irreverent humor into the studio. The songs, as usual, don't disappoint, running the gamut from anti-war sex anthem "Ladies of the World" to the funky bedtime jam that Marvin Gaye has tried so hard to perfect, "Business Time." Who can resist seductive statements like "two minutes in heaven is better than one minute in heaven?" Most of the songs benefit from the added instrumentation and production, with "The Prince of Parties" sounding like the Beatles if they stayed in India longer and were a comedy duo, and "Boom" is much more understandable and palatable with Bret's clarified vocals and the faux-reggaeton production. The only disappointment is the utter lack of new songs. While a compilation might be a necessity for casual fans or newcomers, Conchord lovers will already know pretty much every song on the disc, and one would've thought with the exposure the two have been getting, they would've jumped on the opportunity to release new material. But you can't begrudge what they've already created, which is pure comic gold.
Totally Entertaining August 8, 2008 Bianca Borrelli (Maryland) These guys are the most talented, hilarious and straight up entertaining band in many moons. In the middle of listening to an amazing musical arrangement you just crack up with their lyrics. Brillant, brillant, brillant cd.
