Product Description Mixing styles from the ragtime and country music of the twenties and thirties to the rock-and-roll and punk music of their adolescence, The Devil Makes Three pushes the boundaries of acoustic music. Citing influences as varied as Steve Earle, the Reverend Gary Davis, Memphis Jug Band, and Django Reinhardt, the band combines tight vocal harmonies with idiot-savant finger style guitar to create an exciting and original sound.
This is the first commercial release by The Devil Makes Three. It's a digitally remastered version of their original 2002 record, plus b-sides and live recordings.

Great music December 9, 2008 C. Douglas (New Jersey) I saw this band in Austin, Tx. when they opened for Todd Snider about 3 or 4 years ago. I bought their CD at the show because the music blew me away. They have a mature sound beyond their years and it's this gorgeous, dusty, not-quite-country sound. Makes you feel like you should be in a bar in the middle of the desert doin' shots of Jack Daniels....in a good way.
This Band Smokes like the Devil is in the Band August 21, 2008 GB (Sebastopol, CA) My local cd store recommended these guys. My twelve year old (A Linkin Park fan normally) and I have fallen so in love with this cd that we took a special trip to the store just to thank the store owner. I am not sure what kind of music category you would put this music in...country?...bluegrass...? ....folk? But if the genre doesn't matter to you and all you care about is whether it is good, well this isn't just good it's jaw dropping great. The lyrics are well done and the music accompaniment is stellar.
Damn Good July 29, 2008 Leah The Vegan (Florida) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like the other reviewers here, I am not a fan of bluegrass, but this band has a great sound that crosses genres and is appealing to a wide range of listeners. Yes, it's roots are in bluegrass, and it has an old fashioned, acoustic thing happening, but it also has a punk edge to it, which is what drew me in. The music is upbeat, but the lyrics are dark enough that I can get into it. The Plank, Old Number Seven, and Dynamite were the songs that made me buy the CD, but as I listen to it more, I am starting to dig other songs. Even the songs that I'm not that into have some quality that makes them good. I never thought I'd say things like, "Wow, that's a cool banjo riff!"
Buy their music, BUT see this Band! July 9, 2008 Charles Marchant (Placerville, California) This band weaves an eclectic blend of ragtime, blues, bluegrass, and country with an edge of rock/punk, and do it like no other band. I first saw The Devel Makes Three as an opening act in a Sacramento club when they were just beginning to tour. They were fantastic and the highlight of the show. I have subsequently seen them numerous times, and they are an excellent act to see live. I have all of their CDs, but prefer the live "A Little Bit Faster and a Little Bit Worse" (but all are very good). Do yourself a favor, and pick up one of their CDs if you do not own one, and then, make it a point to see them live. You will not be sorry!
Music that tracends a genre.. March 5, 2008 Ryan Friedrich (Monterey Bay, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I heard this band when they first started playing live shows in my area, which was near the start because they live near me. Point being I'm not a huge fan of banjo or bluegrass for that matter. They are simply good musicians that write beautiful songs. As a musician myself I can say they are definately top knotch and the bass that comes out in the remastered tracks sounds fantastic.
