Album Description Performer and songwriter Mariah Carey has set April 15th as the in-store date for the most eagerly anticipated album of the year, E=MC. The 11th studio album of her career, E=MC is the follow-up to The Emancipation Of Mimi, Mariah's worldwide 10 million selling #1 album, which generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), 2 #1 singles and countless more industry honors during its 18-month stay on the charts. The first single from E=MC is "Touch My Body," written and produced by Mariah Carey, C. "Tricky" Stewart, and The-Dream, and blasting out worldwide on February 12th. The video for "Touch My Body" was directed by feature filmmaker Brett Ratner - Internet, cable and network premieres for the video will be announced in the weeks ahead. In addition to C. "Tricky" Stewart and The-Dream, other guest producers joining Mariah on E=MC will include Jermaine Dupri, DJ Toomp, Stargate, Will I Am, Bryan Michael Cox, Nate "Danjahandz" Hills and James Poyser.. E=MC is executive produced by Mariah Carey and Antonio "LA" Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group. The Emancipation Of Mimi, released April 12, 2005, was an industry phenomenon for the mega-platinum award-winning superstar - Soundscan's biggest-selling album of the year, bringing total sales of Mariah's albums, singles and videos to more than 160 million worldwide, making her the most successful female recording artist in history. Mimi featured "We Belong Together" (winner of the Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song Grammys) and "Don't Forget About Us," Mariah's 16th and 17th #1 career singles respectively. They tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley's 17 #1's. Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 48 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits.

fantastic May 17, 2008 The new Mariah Carey CD is fantastic. As a matter of fact I'm listening to it as I'm writing this review. I can't put it down.
Mariah does it again, amazing CD! May 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This CD has just the right amount of upbeat dancy songs, complimented with ballads that Mariah is known for. I am able to put the CD in the car and just drive, not worrying about skipping to the songs I like because they are all equally great!
Confident and energetic, but still... May 16, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Emancipation of Mimi was an exceptional album. Truly a crowning acheivement in Mariah Carey's career. That album had variety, freshness and soul. It was the kind of album that you finish listening to, then just sit there and marvel at how great it was! Along comes its official sequel, E=MC2. And true to the nature of sequels, it just comes up short.
The album opens very strongly with the incredible "Migrate" before heading into the #1 single, "Touch My Body". But from there, it just can't seem to sustain the momentum it started. There are some good songs thrown in there such as "I'm That Chick", "For The Record" and "Side Effects", but the rest of the album sounds like filler. Ballads such as "I Stay In Love" and "Love Story" are just too generic for Carey and mark no new musical territory. Second single "Bye Bye" could be decent, but it tries too hard to follow the success of "We Belong Together". In the end, it's heartfelt lyrics don't go with the sound of the song, resulting in a very bland song.
In this album, Carey is trying to appeal to the younger crowd. But as a result, she starts to alienate those fans that have been with her since her 1990 debut album. Her choice of lyrics, such as "gots to migrate", "that's the way it be" and "all up in my bidness" sound strange coming from her. She apparently doesn't realize that she doesn't need to try and sound all "hip" for people to love her. She's a true diva, and it's sad to see her resort to such juvenile antics.
Emancipation of Mimi was a classy record. E=MC2 ends up sounding like a desperate attempt at avoiding another downfall like the Glitter/Charmbracelet debacle. I love Mariah, and have been buying her albums since her debut. However, this just isn't her strongest.
