Amazon.com Sure, a dozen swinging, rocking Setzer-ized tunes inspired by the most popular themes in classical music seems a little silly--but it also sounds great. As the ex-Stray Cats guitarist blazes his way across the fretboards, Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 becomes "Take the 5th," and Grieg's "Hall of the Mountain King" morphs into "One More Night with You," complete with lyrics that lust both for the joy of rock and the chorus of colleens who sing along with Setzer. The horns play foil to Setzer's ebullient six-string antics, which zing with humor and virtuosity, archly taking on Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik," transformed into the finger-popping title track, or rippling through the finger-busting cartoon-speed solos of "Honey Man," a rockabilly rave-up based on Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee." Guitar buffs will also appreciate the variety of tones Setzer employs. He's trad-jazz clean in "1812 Overdrive," rabidly surfy for Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance," and sweetly pure on nylon-string guitar in "For Lisa," his gypsy swing twist on Beethoven's "Fuer Elise." This may be a lowbrow take on highbrow music, but Setzer keeps his standard lofty, and the results are a blast. --Ted Drozdowski
Album Description Take the biggest hit songs on the planet, add some rockin' swing, scorching electric guitar, put it into a blender with an 18-piece Big Band and you have something pretty mind-blowing. Classical music is the fertile ground of the greatest melodies ever written, and you will know every single one on this CD (even if you don't recognize the titles). As great as these classical melodies are, however, when presented in their original context among long and drawn out movements, they're often very hard for most people to digest. As a result, the majority of music fans don't own any of it. With Wolfgang's Big Night Out Setzer has embarked on the most ambitious undertaking of his career in re-arranging and orchestrating these classical pieces into streamlined hit melodies that are nothing short of WOW!

More Brilliant Brian! December 28, 2008 B. Parker (Hawaii) Hey, it's Brian Setzer and his swinging band, of course it's freaking fantastic! "One More Night With You" is worth the price of the album alone.
Mediocre Brian December 16, 2008 Samuel R. Hoskins We LOVE Brian Setzer, but this collection was kind of ho-hum. We listened to it once, but will probably not try it again. The idea of doing renditions of classical is cool, but it's a little too much having a full disc of it. I think it might have been better to add a classical number to a standard album.
In the great tradition of swingin' the classics... August 10, 2008 James Jones (Clive, IA United States) Every track on this disc is as much fun to listen to as it obviously was for the BSO to perform. "Sabre Dance" is utterly scorching, and the lyrics for "Honey Man" and "One More Night With You" are fun and witty. It all swings, but the particular standout for me is "For Lisa," Beethoven's "Fur Elise" turned into a sweet tribute to the Quintette du Hot Club de France. Don't pass it by.
Setzer's missed the point ! June 4, 2008 Antonio S. A. Moura (Sao Paulo, SP, Brazil) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Well, I'm a big Brian's fan! Maybe the biggest one around ! Just for the record, I'm from Brazil! Ok,I used to say " everything setzer does is fine, very good ". That 's allowed me to say Setzer's is now missed in multicolored suits and guitars and fancy " wigs ". The firt 3 BSO albuns are stupendous. Stray cats is off record! But some annoying swingin everything ( I love swing music, BBVD and others!) christmas songs, santa claus blablabla... and now this : ok , he's one of the most talented guitar players in action, the arrangements are more than well done but....maybe three or four songs, 'd be ok but a whole album...He`s already a great artist and this 'd not change, not because one album, but a back in the roots and some simplicity 'd do some good. Hey, from a true fan! cheers
Brian Setzer - Wolfgang's Big Night Out April 25, 2008 Allister D. Macdonald (Nova Scotia, Canada) This one is cool, just sheer coolness. Classical tunes on a Gretsch with a twist! He plays the "Pink Panther" theme on a Gretsch, that alone makes this worth a hook!
