Editorial Reviews:
Product Description I guess everybody has their own reason for enjoying Elton John's music. Popular songs like "Bennie and the Jets" provided my soundtrack as a teenager growing up in the 70s. It seemed like in the late-1970s Elton's music continued to get more canned, commercial and unauthentic. This album is the exception. "Blue Moves" songs are longer and deeper with more feeling. The lyrics are profound. Compare the words in "Someone's Final Song" with some of his earlier, bigger hits. Both the melodist (Elton) and the lyricist (Bernie) were experiencing difficult times and the writings reflect that. Then there is the more adventurous, challenging music. Consider the highly orchestrated "Tonight" and the tight rock band instrumental bits like "Your Starter For" and "Out of the Blue". The entire album has a smoky jazz/blues feel to it that validates its title. Is "a classic" an over used term? Perhaps, but applicable in the case of this album at least to this reviewer's way of thinking! SONG LIST: 1. Your Starter For...; 2. Tonight; 3. One Horse Town; 4. Chameleon; 5. Boogie Pilgrim; 6. Cage The Songbird (For Edith Piaf); 7. Crazy Water; 8. Shoulder Holster; 9. Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word; 10. Out Of The Blue; 11. Between Seventeen And Twenty; 12.
