Product Description Peter Himmelman has many kites in the air. On his fourth family recording, Peter's quirky sense of humor, strong friendly vocals, expert musicianship and intelligent, touching and laugh-out-loud funny lyrics make his timeless songs soar. Expect the unexpected as Peter surprises and delights any age, any time. Includes songs such as My Green Kite, A Dozen Roses, and Baseball Tips With Professor Buckley.
Amazon.com Peter Himmelman has a rubbery voice, a vivid imagination, an ear for quirky pop songs that sounds ripe for the picking by some brilliant kids' comedy troupe, and a complete lack of self-consciousness--a combination you don't often find in kids' performers, even the most successful ones. My Green Kite follows the just-for-the-fun-of-it formula of previous discs like My Fabulous Plum and My Best Friend is a Salamander--here's Himmelman contemplating how confounding a word "maybe" can be ("Maybe Is a Bad Word"), examining the under-appreciated qualities of an egg ("Have You Ever Really Looked at an Egg") and, in a half-poignant, half-hilarious number, deeply regretting his embarrassment over his dad's painfully boring occupation ("My Father's an Accountant"). The word for these songs is screwball--there's a certain loose genius lurking below the surface. As the soundtrack to a Sunday-afternoon Lego marathon, they're pretty near perfect. --Tammy La Gorce

Starts out great, then fizzles August 22, 2008 Sammi D (Boise, ID) The first 4 or 5 songs are wonderful- upbeat with clever lyrics. Many of these songs remind me a bit of Elvis Costello. My kids especially cannot get enough of "My Feet" and "My Green Kite". Near the end of the CD, though, the songs are slower and not nearly as catchy as the ones in the beginning. I appreciate Peter's ability to mix up tempco and style, but some just didn't hit the mark.
Love This CD July 10, 2008 mom looking for good music (Bethesda, MD) We love all of Peter Himmelman's kids CDs, but this is probably our favorite. Great tunes and lyrics. We've given it out as a gift and people rave about it.
Great music for all December 29, 2007 A. Rosenberg (Baltimore, MD) My Green Kite is Himmelman's latest kids album and its a gem. Himmelman has a long and prolific eclectice career ranging from the power jangle of Alex Chilton like pop, to new and traditional Jewish music, to some modern folk to the occasional kids collection. Pulling together the tunefulness, playfulness, and best elements of XTC to They Might Be Giants, Himmelman puts together a thoroughly enjoyable set of tunes for all to enjoy. If the subject matter wasn't so endearingly simple and funny, he'd have a great release for us adults. Fortunately for us, and our kids, Himmelman kept it for the kids. The title track, "My Green Kite", its simply great. The catchy chorus and cute air traffic control voice overs from the radio tower observing the kite of the song make it so much fun. Just as much fun on this album is "Feet" which as the title of most kids songs, suggests, is pretty easy to understand what the subject is. Simple subject matters aside (afterall it is music for kids, not Radiohead) the voices, the tunes, the melody, and mood all make for enjoyable downloading for all, tonight.
I love my feet! December 15, 2007 C. Wade (Dallas, TX) We love this album. We purchased it for our baby, but we enjoy it too. My husband purchased it after hearing about it on NPR. I sing the "I love my feet" song all the time, it is just a great song. We have bought this album as a gift for others as well.
Great album! September 19, 2007 Mom of 2 (San Francisco, CA United States) My daughter just got this disk for her 4th birthday, and we all love the album. The music is actually good, in stark contrast to most of the albums made for kids. The various songs sound a bit like Cat Stevens, Billy Joel, the Beatles. I recommend it.
