Amazon.com Six albums into its career, Godsmack finds itself faced with the challenge of moving forward without betraying its roots. Although the veteran act manages to offer up a handful of convincing tunes on this hour-long affair, IV fails to hang together as a cohesive and convincing album. The opening "Living In Sin" and its follow-up "Speak" rock with conviction although neither breaks new ground; "The Enemy"--a reasonably good approximation of a latter-day Metallica tune--proves persuasive while "Shine Down" and "No Rest For The Wicked" are radio-ready distractions. As good as those and a number of the other songs are IV never locks into any particular groove and ultimately amounts to little more than a batch of songs placed end-to-end on a disc that's roughly 20 minutes too long. By the record's final moments--the passionate but decidedly dated angst-filled dirge "Mama," the meandering "One Rainy Day"--the listener grows weary of treading down an all-too-familiar path with a band that still has a promising future if only it could let go of its unyielding grip on its own past.--Jedd Beaudoin

Godsmack September 19, 2008 Kristin L. Roan I love Godsmack and this CD is okay...not one of their best, but there is still some great songs on this CD. Still worth buying.

My order didn't arrive I don't know if my money was put back but I was unhappy with this order.
Godsmack only gets better March 3, 2008 velvet revolver (texas) In this day and age, rock music is perpetually pathetic. Long gone are the days of old when greats like Metallica, Megadeth, GNR, etc ruled the world...makes me wanna cry. Godsmack, though, refuses to fall in the niche of "nu metal" like linkin park, etc. Ive seen Godsmack twice in concert and trust me, their cds fail dearly to doing them justice. Sully is very charismatic and Tony's guitar work is impressive and entertaining. Highly recommended- songs like "Mama" and "One Rainy Day" are shocking because at first listen its a surprise that the boys would write such lyrics- my favorites on this album though. Sully has immensely matured and its noticeable. Well worth the price- real rock fans cant live without it.
Not my favorite Godsmack cd January 3, 2008 David Kelley (Harrisburg, PA) This cd does not work. It sounds so processed at times, way too far the other way for me. I do appreciate them trying to change it up a little, but it's time to get back to the godsmack we love. Bring back the soul!!
