Good soundtrack - not much different from original April 27, 2006 Meryl K. Evans (Plano, TX) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
"I've been slimed." That's how I feel after listening to the remastered Original Soundtrack Album of Ghostbusters. It does have good parts, no doubt, but how many times can you sit through various versions of Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbusters." Too many times, I was asked, "Who you gonna call... ?" It's a shame because this album has some great tunes. The remastered has all of the songs that appear on the original plus the two additional songs: "Disco Inferno" and "Ghostbusters" 12-inch single remix. Personal favorites include "Savin' The Day by Alessi," "Hot Night" by Laura Branigan, and "Cleanin' Up the Town" by The Bus Boys. What happened to them? Let's not forget the classic from the boys who were the kings of '80s love songs, "I Can Wait Forever" by Air Supply. Funny, I don't remember it being in the movie. However, I've since learned the song was played through the headphones of the guy moving the Ghostbusters' equipment out of the college. No wonder I didn't remember. Also added is "Disco Inferno" by The Trammps. Again, I didn't remember this one in the movie especially since it's the wrong decade. Turns out it was played at Louis' party. The last bonus track is yet another version of "Ghostbusters." Take out the 15 minutes of Ghostbusters songs, and the 11 minutes of "Disco Inferno," all of which comes to about half of the album in terms of time. And it's as good as the original album. The extras don't take it up a notch. List of songs on the album: 1. "Ghostbusters" - Ray Parker Jr. 2. "Cleanin' Up The Town" - The Bus Boys 3. "Savin' The Day" - Alessi 4. "In The Name Of Love" - The Thompson Twins 5. "I Can Wait Forever" - Air Supply 6. "Hot Night" - Laura Branigan 7. "Magic" - Mick Smiley 8. "Main Title Theme" (Ghostbusters) - Elmer Bernstein 9. "Dana's Theme" - Elmer Bernstein 10. "Ghostbusters" (Instrumental Version) - Ray Parker Jr. 11. "Disco Inferno" - The Trammps [not on original album] 12. "Ghostbusters" (12 Inch Single Remix) - Ray Parker Jr. [not on original album] Bottom line: A good replacement for the cassette tape you originally bought, but if you already have the original album on CD/DVD, you're not missing much. The newer version is cheaper than the older one and it has extras, so this is the better deal.
