Amazon.com Switch, INXS's first release since re-fashioning itself as a prime-time reality show spectacle, could earn somebody an A in sociology. A poll of inter-generational hipsters is bound to show that the degree to which you like it correlates directly to your age. The over-30 crowd--those who once shimmied to the late Michael Hutchence's hugely sexy vocal turns on hits such as "Need You Tonight" and "What You Need"--might have a hard time dissing it, mainly because J.D. Fortune succeeds so unswervingly at imitating him. On the other hand... there it is: imitation doesn't always sit well with the generation that recently ripped into Paul Rodgers for parading around stages as Freddy Mercury, and as much as 30-something rock sophisticates will want to relive INXS's heyday, they'll do so suspiciously without Hutchence at the helm. Younger fans, on the other hand--the ones that discovered the band on reality TV--can enjoy J.D. Fortune and co. without reservation, and they will love this disc best. For them, "Devil's Party" (reminiscent of "Original Sin") will arrive without reference, thereby making near-impossible funk-rock coolness seem new. Ditto that effect on "Pretty Vegas," a vampy number co-written by Fortune that owes its guitar riff to "Devil Inside." "Like It or Not" and "Hot Girls," two other standouts, also go a long way toward peeling away the poser tag Hutchence fans may want to affix to Fortune, but may not entirely remove it. For some fans, Hutchence's "Never Tear Us Apart" plea is a personal thing. --Tammy La Gorce

Nice try, but not great August 16, 2008 ASP (NJ) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This album has a sound slightly similar to that of the old INXS, but to me it feels more like an imitation that tries too hard to be the old INXS. This album does have a good sound that brings back memories of the old INXS. But it doesn't have a great sound that it should. I guess it was a decent try as their first album. The songs start off well, but then go into a mediocre sound and end poorly. The lead singer needs to stop trying to be an impersonator, stop trying to be like Michael Hutchence and develop his own style. I loved the songs of the old INXS (with Michael Hutchence), and I have them loaded on my MP3 CDs in my car. But regarding this CD, I don't want to load any of the songs on my MP3 CDs. (I only listen to music in my car, and I don't own an iPod so I am selective of the songs.) INXS still has the rest of the group who did write great songs in the past, and all it takes is the proper performance, which I think the new lead singer can be able to develop into posibly on the next album. One of the great songs is Devil's Party. Some of the songs that start off well but become mediocre are: Pretty Vegas, Afterglow, God's Top Ten. The other songs are just ok.
Slightly Lacking July 12, 2008 Veronica L. Mandolini (port orange, fl United States) JD Fortune really has a great voice. It's deep, rich and sexy. I was so looking forward to this album. However I think his voice is underused. The music is louder than him making it difficult to hear him. I like a few of the songs. Devils Party is to much like the Devil Inside. Pretty Vegas I love but again the music is to loud compared to the voice. Some of the songs seem alike. I felt dissappointed but still it's good. I'm hoping for a better second album. I give it a four because his voice is so good.
Great Album! June 11, 2008 Eric G. Belrose (Vermont, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was skeptical about buying the new album from INXS, only because I wasn't sure how the new singer JD was going to fill the shoes of the original singer. I was more then pleased! JD has stepped up nicely and has more then just fit in, he has added his own style to the INXS sound. This Album is a must for any fan of INXS. Being a touring drummer myself, I particularly enjoyed this solid work! The opening track is crisp and I love the horns, very nice touch! And Afterglow is just one of those tunes I can listen to over and over again! Just beautiful! Well done gentlemen! My advice....BUY THIS ALBUM, you will not be dissappointed! Eric
It's about time - Worth the wait April 29, 2008 Wendy E. Beyertholen It's about time - Worth the wait buy it to enjoy - Welcome to Inxs JD
Not Bad...... January 9, 2008 S. Green ...but not great either. "Dirty Vegas", "God's Top Ten" and "Afterglow" are all standouts. The rest of the cd is just o.k. to somewhat stale. Worth a few bucks just for the three best tunes. Would enjoy seeing them live with the new lead singer, he's great!
