Schiller's Best Yet January 26, 2008 Jack Broyles Jr. (Seattle, WA) I started my trip down the "techno" path with Enigma. After literally trying to wear-out Enigma's first 6 CDs, I was ready to expand my horizons. I am not sure how I found Schiller, but am I glad I did. Leben was my first Schiller purchase and I had to have more. I resisted Tag und Nacht due to the price. It has since become very affordable. Buy this CD now! It is, in my opinion, the best of the releases so far. The mix of down-tempo instrumentals and (mostly) female vocals is truly unique. Much less "spacey" than some of Enigma or Delerium, and many of the songs are in German, which just works for me, even though I have no idea what the Lyrics are. The music, with its subdued but always present back beat, is eminently dance-able. However, it is just as good (or better) when blaring from your car CD player while you are traveling 80 MPH on an empty road with a full moon. Or when you and your significant other are in the mood for romance-a great fire place CD! I have not heard the American (English) version of this, however, I recommend the German version simply because the American version has at least one song that is a re-release from a previous effort. If you love Enigma, Amethystium, Blue Stone, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Delerium, Sleep Thief, or Jens Gad, pick-up anything by Schiller. Similar in style to all these bands, but at the same time completely different, you won't be disappointed.
this is music. wow! February 16, 2007 Daniel Ambrus (Louisville, KY United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
i have long been acquainted with german producer schiller, albeit distantly via club remixes of his releases such as 'ruhe' and 'glockenspiel.' as little as i was impressed by these remixes, i became intrigued by some of his solo work and decided to purchase this album. to my surprise i found it is NOT a clubbing cd! it has, however, instantly become one of my favorites, and i don't see that changing anytime soon! what an amazing collection of music on offer here.. the first track literally welcomes you via a deep german voice to 'den neuen welt von schiller' (shiller's new world). what a world it is!! an eclectic and intelligent mix of electronic music, some ambient, some trippy, some chillout, and all entirely beautiful. the female vocal talent on offer is exceptional, and the male vocals (more lyrical or spoken than singing) are well administered to add some variety. the songwriting and engineering are immaculate.. i can't remember the last time i've heard a record so polished yet so different! thematically, schiller takes you on a sonic journey through day and night, mixing english and german vocals along the way. sleek ambience alternates trip hop like themes, smoothed into an overarching theme of chillout that turns out incredibly catchy and pretty without being forced or cheesy. i would describe the style as a blend of chicane, atb, hooverphonic, and maybe a little delerium. altogether extremely pleasing! recommended for fans of the above groups, and i would also throw in qntal, e nomine (more so the 'profezeiung' variety), and ulrich schnauss. but really, no matter who you are, if you like downtempo music, you will be ever so glad you made the purchase! 5 stars for overall excellence, brilliant execution and originality! wow!! i need more albums like this.
Just what I needed.... February 3, 2007 C. Cisneros (Upland, Ca) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I absolutely adore this album. It is the first time that I had given Schiller a listen and a huge step to buy the full album through Amazon for $37.99! I listened to it on the way to work... and on the way back... for the entire week... and I found that alot of the songs stood with me when I was not listening to it... Overall, I feel that this album melts with itself very nicely... It is very relaxing and calming. This album really adds to the ambience of driving on a dark, rainy highway...! Typically, I listen to alot of industrial dance music, with a majority of it being German influenced. So, taking away the harsh dance beats while keeping the German creativity in music meant alot for me. It is perfect for my down time music.
Great Album - Worth a listen January 11, 2007 John A. Robins (UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
