Amazon.com Ricky Martin's self-titled 1999 album made him an international crossover star, and it's been both a blessing and a curse ever since. The Puerto Rican heartthrob became the poster boy for the much-ballyhoed Latin-pop movement, and he paved the way for English-language albums from Paulina Rubio, Thalia and Shakira. At the same time, Martin's processed pop recordings quickly lost favor at radio, and he seemed destined to become a musical footnote. Life finds the charismatic singer exuding a newfound confidence and showcasing some much-needed musical diversity. Martin traveled to India to record the string arrangements for the album, and that influence is felt throughout the disc's 12 tracks. Middle Eastern accents embellish tracks "Til I Get To You" and "I Won't Desert You," and groovy first single "I Don't Care" adds guest vocals from Fat Joe and soulful songbird Amerie for some street cred. Vocally, Martin sounds better than ever; he pushes his modest voice past its normal limit to match the intensity of the music. And like any good pop icon looking to maximize airplay, Martin dabbles in reggaeton during "Drop it On Me" and the Luny Tunes Mix of "Que Mas Da (I Don't Care)." Life may be the sound of an artist still looking for his individual sound, but it's a pretty enjoyable ride nonetheless. --Joey Guerra

Ricky should stay away from Hip-Hop!! December 16, 2008 F. Robbins This cd has great beats, but Ricky Martin's voice didn't go well with the Hip-Hop ones, especially on "I Don't Care," and please don't get me started on the video for that song. However, I do have to give Ricky Martin credit for his creative expansion into other genre's of music! Other than that, the cd was alright!
Hot, Sexy, Seductively Sincere! The best CD ever! September 13, 2008 Tidepools (MI United States) So, I know this is 2008 and this CD came out in 2005 but this is the best CD Ricky has done! It really ticks me off that "Life" wasn't well promoted here in the US. I first heard "Drop it on me" in my Zoomba class and had to buy the CD. The song "I Am" is so seductive that you feel like you've slept with the hottest man on the planet. What woman dosen't want a man that puts her first? In "I Don't Care" your right with Ricky as he walks in on the love of his life getting it on with another man. The Reggation/Latin/Pop vibe is a wicked brew. So dive into the jungles of Puerto Rico with your hot, shirtless sweatbeaded tour guide, Ricky. "Life" is a must have!
OH RICKY !! September 18, 2007 R. Gonzalez (itty bitty city, IL) NEW SOUNDS FOR A MORE MATURE MAN. HE HAS GROWN IN HIS TALENT AND IT SHOWS ON THIS DISC. VARIETY OF SOUNDS FROM LATIN AMERICA !! MAKES U GET UP AND DANCE !!
A bit weak! July 3, 2007 M. Interlandi (Los Angeles, CA, USA) I own many of Ricky Martin's CD and I was a little disappointed in this one. Its not as up beat as what I expected.

This CD is even Hotter than La Vida Loca. Ricky goes from Hottie to Lusty in this version. If hot is what you want then this is the Ricky CD you want. Saw him in Concert when the CD came out and ALL I can say is that he is so much more handsom in person than even his CD. UNBELIEVABLE! If you ever get a chance see him in concert. The music, the moves, the man! Take a bib.
