Pleasant Surprise November 10, 2006 Mr. Scott T. Allen (Naperville, IL) Gotta agree with other reviewers, this is a solid CD across-the-board. I'm an old-timer and best comparison was provided by another reviewer -- with Missing Persons (first album). It's nice to buy a CD based on 2 songs I heard and liked, and find that almost all the songs are good.
Absolutely brilliant masterpiece August 7, 2005 Raven Digitalis (Missoula, MT United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Violet" is one of those very, very rare albums--like Switchblade Symphony's Serpentine Gallery--where every track is its own piece of beautiful art. There's not a bad track on this disk. It's dark and gorgeous; the beats are invigorating and emotive, the vocals/lyrics are meaningful & magickal. Thank you, BDM, for such a brilliant release (now on Metropolis)!! ~DJ Raven~
Absolutely amazing.Best album of 2004 May 10, 2005 Erik Bramlett (Kansas City, MO USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Birthday Massacre, being my all-time favorite band, bring a very fantasy-like feel to their music, containing synths that have the sound of beauty and horror, combined with guitar sounds that can be very rhythmic as well as destructively heavy. Violet,in my opinion,is an amazingly beautiful album, bringing tales of fear and love lost, with a bit of synthy upbeatness. It was a symphony of nature, with an Alice In Wonderland, fantasy like sound. All songs flowed together in such an amazing way. This was by far the best album I had ever heard of 2004/early 2005.

I'm not an expert on this band, but ever since I heard "Violet" on a website I've been addicted to them. It's so great to have music like this released now a days. I personally find their music to have everything to be qualified as goth rock, but the splash of upbeatness makes it differnt, in a good way of course. I enjoy the vocals alot too, wonderful voice. And I'd agree with what the other person said about them going hand in hand with LAM. When I first heard TBM they were the first band that I could consider comparing them too. So, all in all, this cd is definitly a great buy.

The Birthday Massacre is a one of a kind band. There music feels goth, with hints of electronica(but not to be confused with Neo-goth, or Eletronic/goth), and fused with the odd flavor of 80s pop. Intresting to say the lest. There compareable to no one in style much like Mindless Self Indulgence. When bands like these come around its hard not to take notice cause such orginal sounds turns into such ear candy. Its a virgin sound to your ears and to that asepc its a true treat. There closest compareable sounds are that of a Zeromancer clashed with London After Midnight. More so the later then the former. The only issue is that some of the music although catchy, gets bland after numerous listens. I dont like to plug other bands, however if your taste brought you this far i suggest giving London After Midnight a try...a bit more darker with a harder male vocal lead. Despite both bands showing clear differences they still go hand and hand it so seems.
