Amazon.com Where Our Love Grows, the first album in two years from the '80s jazz/pop duo Swing Out Sister, proves that they can still produce catchy tunes of the quality that gave them their well-deserved success with singles such as "Break Out." The high production values, big brass sections, extravagant arrangements, and the exquisite voice of Corrine Drewery make for some great middle-of-the-road listening. "Love Won't Let You Down" kicks the selection off with its upbeat rhythms and a blistering brass-driven melody that Bacharach could've written for Dusty Springfield. Drewery's vocal delivery is just as sassy and sophisticated as Springfield's, enhancing the retro feel to the track, a feel that is carried over throughout the whole of the record. The laid-back arrangement of "When the Laughter Is Over," with its swooning violins, slows the tempo down further, the subtle drum loop behind the orchestrated melody provides the song with a grove that so many ballads lack. The uplifting hook in the chorus of "Let the Stars Shine" really demonstrates the class of songwriting that Swing Out Sister are capable of. The harmonies smack of the Carpenters' fluffy, innocent pop, never seeming cheesy or outdated. The double bass of "Happy Ending" funks the track up, Drewery's Cleo Lane-like vocals take the listener to a smoky late-night jazz club. Swing Out Sister are a retro band and always have been. But the pure quality of their output of the last two decades has meant that they have never sounded stale. Their craftsmanship and their musicianship have served them well, making them one of the biggest bands of the last 20 years, in Japan. Swing Out Sister will be around for a long time to come, if they remain consistent in doing what they do so well. --Jamie Clark
Album Description Asian pressing of the enduring British sophisti-pop duo's eighth studio album, previously a Japan exclusive release. Swing Out Sister are best known for their 80s hits, 'Breakout' & 'Twilight World'. Universal. 2004.

They Deserve Five Stars December 24, 2007 Simo Proving that great music still exists, SOS offer this little gem to those of us who have the ear to discern quality musicianship.
It has a fixed place in my CD Player December 22, 2007 E. H. J. Peet (Zwolle, Netherlands) I have been an avid fan of S.O.S. since the start of their career and to me this is one of their best efforts yet. All songs have that little extra that sets them apart. This CD got a place in my CD Changer Set in my car after I received it and it never left its place. It is that good!
GORGEOUS VIRTUOSITY August 1, 2007 Phillysound2 (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a simply gorgeous Swing Out album. It's basically a honed, fully realised, expression/summation of their art and talent so far. It is smooth and effortless but must have taken lots of time and care. It's a perfect Swing Out album as far as I'm concerned. It took me a little time to get addicted but I've recently been playing this over and over; something I really don't do that often nowadays as I listen to music in shuffle mode on my Walkman most of the time. As the album finished on my Walkman the Swingle Singers came on directly afterwards - perfect! I realised a while back, with some surprise, because I have so many favourite bands and have listened to so much great music, that Swing Out Sister are one of my all time greats - because I have never, ever tired of listening to them. Their music cannot date. I would take a few of their albums to a desert island. I guess they would be: It's Better to Travel; Kaleidoscope World, Shapes and Patterns, Where Our Love Grows with a set of greatest tracks that are not on those albums. This is a class act. Buy this album. Relax. Chill Out.
Absolutely superb! June 8, 2007 L. Eggleston This is the best CD Swing Out Sister has produced to date! Simply awesome songs!
The Best Swing Out Sister May 12, 2007 WToh (Singapore) Clearly, the best Swingout Sister album. I've been of fan of theirs since they first came out. Love all their albums but this one tops it all. Great jazzy sounds for that lazy summer feeling. Simply gorgeous.
