| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Angela McCluskey has a luxurious, pliant voice reminiscent of Beth Orton, Cyndi Lauper, and even Billie Holiday. Thanks largely to producer/multi-instrumentalist Nathan Larson from Shudder to Think, the debut from this Scottish singer-songwriter and former Wild Colonials vocalist is a sumptuous and diverse pop-soul album. Take the first tune, "It's Been Done," which kicks off with a smooth down-tempo beat, sparse piano notes, and arpeggiated strings--just when you're ready for yet another Portishead ripoff, it changes. McClusky's rich voice enters, sounding more than a little like Macy Gray, and there's a bass line so buoyant and good you almost don't notice it, followed by some smart, strange slide guitar playing. Now get this; the bridge has organ and a ska beat--but the song totally works. It's the kind of tune that inspires daydreams of making a movie just to place it at the climax. Similar genre-morphing pleasures abound on Things We Do, a contemplative, bluesy, and occasionally brilliant solo debut. -- Mike McGonigal

NICE!!!!!!!!! August 8, 2008 Darah L. Woods (EUCLID, OHIO) I HAD NEVER HEARD OF ANGELA UNTIL HAPPENING UPON HER SONG "IT'S BEEN DONE" PLAYING ON THE SOUND SYSTEM. HER VOICE CAPTURED ME. VERY INTERESTING I THOUGHT, SO I GOOGLED THE LYRICS AND FOUND THE SONG. I DEFINITELY BELIEVE IN GIVING A PERSON THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, SO I PURCHASED THE CD BASED ON THAT SONG ONLY. THERE ARE A FEW GEMS WITH "IT'S BEEN DONE" BEING ONE OF THEM. "LOVE IS STRONGER THAN DEATH IS A GORGEOUS ROCK BALLAD", "LONG LIVE I", AND OF COURSE HER SOARING AND AIRY VOCALS ON THE POPULAR "SOMEBODY GO LUCKY" ARE JUST BEAUTIFUL. THERE JUST AREN'T ENOUGH SONGS LIKE THOSE ON THIS CD, AND SOMETIMES ANGELA CAN BE DOWN RIGHT EXPLICIT E.G "SUCKER" OVERALL THIS IS A CD I WOULD RECCOMEND TO ANYONE WHO'S TIRED OF THE COOKIE CUTTER POP PRINCESSES, AND WANTS TO ENJOY SOME REAL HEARTFELT MUSIC.
Why is this CD obscure? December 16, 2007 H. Roark (New England) I have been collecting music for several decades and I have to say that this CD gets the most playing time of anything in my collection. The combination of her unique rasp and soulful, sometimes stark (but not sappy) thoughts never tire on me. Since "It's Been Done" leads it off, my teenage daughter can recite everyword because I've played "The Things We Do" so often on the morning drive to school. Every so often, I check to see if she has finally produced another CD. Nothing.....so I hit play one more time.
great voice February 21, 2007 Air (United States) Angela's voice is mesmerizing, and she assembled quite an eclectic array of delightful musical genres on this album. She moves effortlessly through each. I keep looking out for a next album.
Captivating January 18, 2007 Mark A. Evans (Pittsburgh) Wow! What a Talent! Not Quite The Wild Colonials, but Buy This CD, You will LOVE IT !
