Hundred records contracts November 15, 2004 Duane E. Crawford (Rolette, ND USA) 3 out of 44 found this review helpful
Leonard Slatkin has recorded 100 performances, Pinchas Zukerman, 100 performances, and Janos Starker, 150 performances. Doesn't RCA/BMG need them anymore? I had heard Symphony 2 on record, but there is an Enigma and vagueness about these symphonies. They take forever and never get to the point. Enigma Variations were pleasant enough, enough to make me sleep. I recognized Elgar in the last variation. Elgar fits more of what I am with an optimism and bombast in the orchestral works. Zukerman's rendition of Elgar's Violin Concerto is off-key ala Paganini. I don't know whether Starker's or Du Pre's Cello Concerto playing is the most satisfying. But I definitely like it. I suppose these recording stem from the Seventies. I heard Zukerman on CBC Radio 2 talking so I know he is available.
