Taped in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the final night of Rush's 2002 Vapor Trails tour, this double-disc set finds Canada's famous power trio giving its all for 40,000 of the most rabid Rush fans ever gathered under one sky. Sure, the guys are all pushing 50. Bassist-vocalist Geddy Lee strains to hit some high notes, and guitar wizard Alex Lifeson occasionally sounds a tad bored. But by and large they remain at or near the peak of their powerful game--and, from the looks of it, they're having more fun than ever. Drawing from 15 of their 17 studio albums and leaning heavily on Vapor Trails, they celebrate their stylistic range (progressive-leaning classic rock to dense but melodic post-grunge) and the far broader scope of drummer Neil Peart's considered lyrics. The concert alone pushes three hours, and disc 2 offers a lengthy documentary and multi-angle options for three songs. The Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2.0 sound quality is generally good, if overly compressed. Peart's drums sound fabulous, in fact: splashy and tight and far more natural than they've sounded on any Rush album, live or otherwise, in years. Not to be missed--and needlessly hard to find--is a 1975 promotional clip for Fly by Night's "Anthem." This set is a must, even for the doubtful. --Michael Mikesell

 Bad sound, to be endured rather than enjoyed November 1, 2008

I've never been a Rush fan, but always felt I could be one. Never owned a Rush album, but heard all the radio cuts, and had seen one awesome, high-energy performance piece on VH1. I bought this DVD on impulse figuring I'd be in for a treat.
There was excellent musicianship, good energy from the band and crowd, good camera work. But, the sound was BAD. And, that's bad, since we are talking about MUSIC.
Ugh. The audio was muddy, and Geddy Lee's vocals were buried so deep I could not have followed them at all if I had not know words to a third of the songs. It did improve slightly as the concert progressed, but not satisfactorily, as at least one other reviewer, here, stated.
I'm surprised the DVD got released in this state.

I have been a Rush fan since the 70's and have been to several of their concerts.
Pros:
1. The filming of this video was done great. Not too jumpy.
2. The crowd is REALLY into it.
3. Very wide selection of songs.
4. Alex and Neil are on fire! They hit every note every Song.
5. It's Rush! One of the most talented 3 man groups ever.
Cons:
1. Geddy cannot hit those high notes anymore.
2. The mixing of the audio sux. I cannot speak for the 5.1 option, but playing it in stero mode on a $15K system is disappointing. I can put in Alice in Chains - MTV Unplugged [Region 2] and tell a WORLD of difference in the quality of the audio.
Seeing Rush in their later years is cool, but not having quality audio to go with it ruins the whole experience.

Like mentioned in some of the past reviews...for some reason, the sound board was off keel. That is, there was WAAAAY to much bass until about 3 songs in then things evened out. Over all, a great video (once you get past the crowd yelling "RUSH...RUSH....RUSH" for every song)!!

I've never been a Rush fan, and this is my first experience with the band, but I simply loved the concert.
Great music, great production, and the small documentary of the tour in the bonus disc provides a better understanding of the personality of the band members.
Great concert, definitely a must have for rock or Rush fans.

I am not sure where folks are coming from when they deem this a great video concert. I have seen Rush in concert 5 times and this does not measure up. Not only does it not measure up but there are several DVD's released by Rush that are better than this one such as R30 or Exit Stage Left.
The audio quality on this DVD is not very good for a concert released in this day and age. On top of that, I find that the set list leaves alot to be desired although admitedley, I am a fan of the earlier rush days pre-dating Grace Under Pressure. Surely, many will disagree with me but for me, I don't find that this was even worth my money. I do recommed R30 or Exit Stage Left though. None of the DVD's released by Rush exceed the performances that I saw from the band in the late 1970's though.
