Only 3 tracks, but you can't find these gems anywhere else December 7, 2003 John Cruz (Clinton TWP, Michigan United States) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Not alot of people are thrilled about buying CD singles, especially import ones. People like to ask "why do all the import CDs have all the cool stuff on them?" Well, in most cases (and I know fot a fact that this is true about the counting crows CDs) the enhanced content such as the secret sites that you get access to (like on Hard Candy and Films about Ghosts) is NOT available to people who don't live in the US or Canda. Because of this, the CD singles that are released overseas include other songs to help make up for the fact that they don't get the exclusive stuff that we do. With that said, 'If I could give all my love' (also known as 'Richiard Manuel is Dead') is an incredible song by itself, and while there is a simply structured chord architecture, it's a brilliantly musical piece. One thing that the general public does not know is that the Counting Crows recorded a bunch of cover songs. These included old favorites, songs from bay area bands that Charlie (the piano player) and Dan (one of the guitar players) used to play in. The 'Blues run the Game' (Jaskson Brown), 'Friend of the Devil' (Greatful Dead), 'Big Yellow Taxi' (Joni Mitchell), 'The Return of the Grevious Angel' (Graham Parsons), and 'Ooh La La' (the faces) are some of the tracks that they recorded. 'Big Yellow Taxi' became a top 40 hit and 'Friend of the Devil' made it's way on to the greatest hits album, 'Films about Ghosts'. 'Ooh La La' and 'The Return of the Grevious Angel' sound absolutely great, and since you can't get this studio version anywhere else, I highly reccomend it. Counting Crows may come out with a covers album, they may not. But either way, this is definately something that you will want to pick up.
