Customer Reviews:
Great double CD set from a songwriting geniusApril 24, 2007 D. Gillham(Los Angeles, CA) I've listened to all the Mat's albums, and this is by far the best solo work that Westerburg has done. Song's that especially stand out are: 'Eyes Like Sparks', 'Silent Film Star' and 'I'll Do Anything' rock out on the first disc. The second disk is slower, meandering and more acoustic but compliments the first disk well: 'We May Be the One' and 'Boring Enormous' canonize Westerburg's legacy for a new age.
Awesome!December 10, 2004 Simon Turner(Amsterdam, Holland Netherlands) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wonderful writing. Who else could write a song like 'Got You Down' from the point of view of the husband of a woman who is playing around on him, the husband sharing his insights into the man she's playing around with, speaking almost out of pity for the wife and knowing how he is untrustworthy. Amazing song. Then there's 'Boring enormous' another song that I can't think of anyone else who could write it, an understanding of how we can become boring, said in the medium of rock no roll! And what about Baby Learns To Crawl. Incredible songwriting. I challenge anyone to point out anything substantially greater than this by The Replacements. I've never heard another song about a child growing up writen so intelligently and provocatively. Every track on Stereo is an excellent song!
don't buy or sell, it's crapDecember 1, 2004 Paul Baker 1 out of 12 found this review helpful
An awful record, don't buy it, please don't buy it. I can't beleive all the die hards saying it's not crap. I've listened to it at least 15 times times the two week stretch after getting it. I love a record that takes ages to get into. It sucks. Disc 2 (the 'rock'nroll') one will not 'satisy you replacements fans' (don't believe it). It sounds like it's from a budweiser advert. the other disc is just so awful. It is not paul westerberg at all. I'm sorry, you will look back at my review if you buy this, and go, good fellow, should have listened. Dosen't deserve your money.
