| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Beck, drummer Narada Michael Walden, and producer George Martin here embark on a potent jazz-rock journey, making stops at the ferocious "Led Boots," the thumb-popping R&B of "Come Dancing," and the hooky "Blue Wind" (written by former Mahavishnu synth player Jan Hammer). Max Middleton's funky clavinet on "Play with Me" and his pulsing Rhodes piano work on "Sophie" add color and rhythmic urgency to Beck's searing guitar, with its unmistakable tone and vocal-like inflections. Released a year after the breakthrough Blow by Blow, Wired generally runs a little hotter, though its low-gear moments--in particular the emotional largesse of Mingus's "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat"--will blow your hair back. --James Rotondi

Essential August 11, 2008 Bowiebuff (SC) Along with "Blow by Blow," this ranks among, not only essential Beck listening, but essential "fusion" and guitar instrumental music. Sure I'm a bit biased because I'm a guitar player, and we tend to adore Beck, but this is music that anyone can get down to. Beck is not just for people who play and can appreciate his breathtaking musicianship. Without a bit of musical knowledge, tracks like "led boots" and "come dancing" are irrestibly funky and danceable, tracks like the wonderful cover of "Goodbye Porkpie Hat" emotional and sexy, and all the rest of the album enjoyable and largely memorable.
classic Jeff Beck July 25, 2008 H. Jablonski What can be said? Jeff with Jan Hammer, Max Middleton, Narada on drums and others. Classic Jeff Beck and a precursor to the live album they did together. Beck fusion at it's finest.
ONLY FIVE STARS? July 3, 2008 A Viewer (Elgin, IL) I'd give this ten if I could. I won't rehash every track on this CD, I'll just say that if you love the electric guitar played well, (and if you're reading this, I guess you do) this is as good as it gets. Jeff Beck gets more feeling out of his instrument than any guitarist I've ever heard, not to mention sounds and tones that shouldn't even be possible. He was doing things on guitar 30 and 40 years ago that I don't think anyone else could duplicate today! There's a bit in "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" where it sounds as if his guitar is being squeezed to death, that's the only way I can describe it. Bloody amazing! He was the best then, and if the two songs he does on Clapton's Crossroads DVD are any indication, he's still the best.
This is a classic Beck record, well worth owning! May 20, 2008 Johnny Boy (Hockessin, DE) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As previous reviewers have stated, this is a far cry from his Yardbirds years, and is moving towards a more fusion sound. Beck is a guitar god, plain and simple, and he shines on 'Wired.' I love listening to his take on the jazz standard 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat.' It's easily one of Beck's best guitar songs. Among the other highlights here are 'Sophie' and 'Love Is Green.' And, similar to 'Blow By Blow,' Jeff Beck proves he can jam, and jam well. This is a great record and it's well worth owning. If you want to hear some vital guitar work from a guitar god, than buy 'Wired.' I guarantee you, you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended for any guitar lover. A killer record. ENJOY!!!

Jeff Beck-Wired ***** Released the year after the monumental Blow By Blow album, Wired is very much the superior album. Considered by many to be his two best albums as a solo artist, many favoring Blow By Blow versus Wired, while I on the other hand feel this is the best and in many ways. Some of Becks best guitar playing and most inspired of not just the time, but of his entire career can be found here on Wired. Plus, Jan Hammer leads some amazing key work to the album which it would have been flat without. The furious lead track 'Led Boots' opens the album and really sets the pace for the rest of the cruise. 'Come Dancing' is sensitive without really being so, and features some of the best guitar work ever recorded. Charlie Mingus' classic 'Goodbye Pork Pie Hat' is just that classic, easily better than that of 'We've Ended As Lovers' from Blow By Blow. 'Head For Backstage Pass' and 'Blue Wind' are both manic and impressive, while 'Sophie' is funky and refreshing. 'Play With Me' is honestly take it or leave it, and 'Love Is Green' leaves you NEEDING more when it closes the album. Was Wired as ground braking as some of Becks earlier work, no, was it as revolutionary and style bending as his later work, not even close. But Wired is without a doubt, Jeff Becks most consistent album to date, as well as his strongest. This rock/jazz fusion album is a classic, and one that any true musicians must own, and one that any music fan would love to add to their collection.
