Customer Reviews:
Overlooked MasterpieceApril 5, 2008 B.J. and the Bear(Edmonton, AB, Canada) This 1974 album should be ranked among Van Morrison's most sublime achievements and perhaps it has largely been overlooked because of the lack of any hit single on the album. This work though is not about the single, but about the collection of songs. Not since Astral Weeks had he released a more stylistically, sonically, and thematically unified album. Haunting, melancholy, and tender, the album is subtle and nuanced musically while being lyrically challenging, captivating, and raw. From "Who Was That Masked Man": "You can hang suspended from a star / Or wish on a toilet roll / You can just soak up the atmosphere / Like a fish inside a bowl". Album for late night, maybe some wine, don't want the day to come yet, kind of mood.
