REMs UP is one of their best! June 19, 1999 I have a lot of REMs CDs and I must say "UP" is the one of the best albums they have ever put out. The music aspect of the album was phenominal, and was only surpassed by the poetic verses and thought provoking lyrics! "UP" is totally my favourite and I recomend it to anyone who likes music, period!

You Must get UP The Limited Edition CD Not Because It Has UP Because It Comes With The 48 Page CD Booklet That Has Lyrics To ALL REM Songs Which I Think Is Cool If You Are A REM Follower Like Me And Don't Know The Lyrics To Some Songs My Favorite Song/s Is The Whole Album
Amazing, REM amazes with emotion instead of catchiness May 4, 1999 Although my favorite REM album changes from time to time, this one is always up there. REM used the restriction of drum machines and turned it to advantage by giving a feel to some of their songs that has not been seen before (Hope and Lotus). This may be one of the most over looked CD's in the past few years due to the fact that the songs rely on emotion and conviction instead of catchy words or lyrics that shock the public. REM amazes me every time by taking the hard road and telling what they feel, and not what everyone thinks that they want to hear.
I've worn out two CDs already! April 29, 1999 Seriously, this is my favorite REM album, and I love them all. The first time I listened, I was "iffy" but by the second time, the greatness just sunk in. It is an INCREDIBLE MASTERPIECE -- REM is alive and well (but I still miss you, Bill Berry)! =)
Listen 5+ times, it's worth it! & 'Up' - beatles tribute? April 18, 1999 R.E.M. are really a wonderful band, a very interesting ones, and what's unique about them in my opinion is that from time to time they release an album which is uniform in an extrem way. It was very noticable in 'Automatic for the People' as well as in this one, UP. A rather relaxed and amazing album, which defently requires a long period of getting used too. I'm a big fan, and at first I hated it. Now, of courese, I realise - this is one of the best. The song 'Parakeet' is beatifully sang and performed, and in all of the songs, there are many different and intersting sounds. In 'Daysleeper' for instance, you hear a weird alien-like voice. This is a must-have, this is a beautiful album. Oh, and I found out something interesting: I think this album is somehow a tribute to the beatles: 'Daytripper' is a song by beatles and 'I ate the walrus' along with 'I ate the lotus'. Anyway, it is EXTEREMELY important to listen several times, because once you get used to the disc, you listen to it all the time.
