Short and not sweet December 29, 2006 AZ Kid (Scottsdale, Az USA) Not only is it a "live" version that is unexpected from the title, but the whole cd is only about 34 minutes running length. Truly only for diehard fans.
CD's like this are why people download.... May 5, 2003 Tim Brough (Springfield, PA United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
One good track from "Smooth Noodle Maps." One good track from "Total Devo." Five songs from the live "Now It Can Be Told," and not even the best ones. No liner notes or pictures. It might be a cheap disc, but just be aware of exactly what you're getting.

Since "Total Devo", "Smooth Noodle Maps", and "Now It Can Be Told" are all out of print, this is a nice disc for those of us who are having a tough time finding those releases. I've got "TD" and "SNM" and frankly, even if you can find 'em, the tracks here are the best ones you'll find on those two final and rather disappointing albums. Not to mention the live stuff, which is top-notch. This disc is a lot more readily available than "NICBT". I've seen it in gas stations and resale stores all over the place. So, while it's not essential, if you're a DEVO fan looking for some of this OOP material, you could do a lot worse than pay a few bucks for this collection.
BMG's False Advertising & A Truthful Review December 5, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Regardless of what reviewer "Tom" thinks, Devo was one of the best live bands ever, and in their heyday put more work, energy and entertainment into their live performances than 90% of other bands with 10x the financial backing from their record companies. Devo got their initial record deal with Warner Brothers and Virgin based primarily on the strength of their live act. That being said, the main problem with this album is that it is basically false advertising by BMG. The selections of songs within represent live selections from an Enigma (now defunct record company) release entitled "Now It Can Be Told: Devo at the Palace", and other selections from Devo's catalog during the short-lived Enigma contract (1988-91). Appearently BMG couldn't acquire the Warner Brothers era recordings which could have fairly and accurately represented "Devo's Greatest Hits". There is nothing about this album essential to a Devo fan. There's no artwork, photography, or even liner notes as redemptive value. Buy it used or at closeout price if you must to complete your collection.
Live and Less than Special. July 24, 2002 Tom (Palatine, IL USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
No matter how cool you think Devo is, they are not much of a live band. This CD pretty much bares that out. It's fine, but the silly banter seems to break up the bands hallmark syncopation, and it is uselessly laced with profanity. Devo's Greatest Hits and Devo's Greatest Misses are fabulous compilations that would do your collection far better than this cheapish issue.
